Have This Daily & Boost Your Memory
know how pistachios and peanuts helps in boosting your memory here in this article.
They say you tend to lose your memory as you age, but there are a certain group of people whose memory is not too good. Well, this could be due to several reasons. But is there a way out to boost your memory then?
Well, yes. A new study had found that daily consumption of nuts such as peanuts and pistachios can strengthen brainwave frequencies associated with cognition, healing, learning, memory and other key brain functions.
There are plenty of benefits of nuts. Apart from improving your cognition and memory, nuts also help in protecting the heart, fighting cancer, reducing inflammation and slowing the ageing process.
During the study, researchers from the Loma Linda University in California explored the effects of regular consumption of six varieties of nuts- almonds, cashews, peanuts, pecans, pistachios and walnuts on brainwave activity. Electroencephalograms (EEG) were performed on the participants who ate the nuts to measure the strength of brainwave signals.
Following the study, it was found that pistachios produced the greatest gamma wave response, which is critical for enhancing cognitive processing, information retention, learning, perception and rapid eye movement during sleep.
On the other hand peanuts, which are actually legumes, produced the highest delta response, which is associated with healthy immunity, natural healing and deep sleep.
"This study provides significant beneficial findings by demonstrating that nuts are as good for your brain as they are for the rest of your body. EEG wave band activity was then recorded from nine regions of the scalp associated with cerebral cortical function. All nuts were found high in beneficial antioxidants, with walnuts containing the highest antioxidant concentrations of all" said, lead investigator Lee Berk, Associate Dean at the varsity.
The result of the study was recently published in the FASEB Journal.
Meanwhile, also learn about a few other major health benefits of pistachios. Take a look.
1. Good For The Heart:
Pistachios are good for the heart. Pistachios contains antioxidants, phytosterols, and unsaturated fatty acids (both polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fatty acids) that helps in lowering the bad cholesterol level and thus helps in keeping the heart healthy.
2. Weight Management:
Many of us do not consider eating pistachios. But pistachios are low in calories, contains high protein, low saturated fat, and high unsaturated fats. Hence, consuming pistachios on a regular basis helps to manage weight efficiently.
3. Controlling Diabetes:
Pistachios are known for its rich antioxidant properties. Due to the antioxidants present, pistachios help in reducing the process of glycation and thus can help in controlling diabetes.
4. Helps Prevent Macular Disease:
Pistachios are one of the best nuts that contains antioxidants such as lutein and zeaxanthin. Including pistachios in the daily diet helps in reducing the risk of contracting an age-related macular disease in the elderly. Pistachios can be consumed in the form of snacks or added to vegetables as well.
