Know About This New Variant Of Dengue

By Staff

All this while we knew about only one type of dengue that was caused or transmitted through the infected mosquito, mainly the Aedes Aegypti. But in what can be called as the most interesting discovery in the recent times scientists have discovered a new variant of dengue.

Scientists at the National Institute of Virology (NIV) in Pune have found a genetic variant of the existing dengue virus in Tamil Nadu.

During this study, the scientists found that the Asian genotype of the serotype 1 had entered India from Singapore. The Asian genotype was responsible for epidemics in Singapore during 2005 and in Sri Lanka during 2009.

Scientists at the NIV, which is the apex body for virology research in the country under the Indian Council of Medical Research, spotted the new virus while carrying out a routine study that analyses samples of dengue virus to identify the virus strain circulating in different parts of the country.

This identification of the Asian variant requires further study to understand its role in the recurrent dengue outbreaks in the country, so it is too early to say the Asian genotype has replaced the African-American genotype.

According to the World Health Organization, the dengue virus (DEN) comprises four distinct serotypes (DEN-1, DEN-2, DEN-3 and DEN-4). Distinct genotypes (genetic structures) have been identified within each serotype.

Meanwhile, it is very important to know the symptoms of dengue and get it diagnosed at the earliest. If the diagnosis gets delayed and one fails to get the correct treatment, then it might turn fatal as well.

Listed here are a few of the major symptoms here on Boldsky. Take a look.

1. Sudden high fever.
2. Severe headache.
3. Joint and muscle pain.
4. Pain behind the eyes.
5. Severe skin rashes.
6. Bleeding in case the dengue is severe.
7. Nausea and vomiting.

Consuming papaya thus helps in building up the immunity level and helps fight back the virus. Not just the fruit, even the leaves of papaya have been found helpful in treating dengue symptoms. All that you need to do is crush a few papaya leaves, squeeze the juice and take a teaspoon of the juice. It helps fight the virus.
