Waking up in the morning after a good night's sleep is just divine. But our morning breath just makes us head straight to the bathroom and grab the toothbrush.
This everyday routine may suddenly turn into a nightmare when we notice blood on our tooth brush.
A lot of us do not take oral health seriously. All we do is brush regularly with a good toothpaste, which will help fight cavities. We do nothing for our gums which are as important to us as our teeth.
Not taking regular care of our oral hygiene can lead to infections in our gums known as Gingivitis or more commonly, bleeding gums.
Gingivitis is caused when there is plague formation in the mouth. When the plague is not cleaned through regular brushing, the bacteria in the plague grow and cause the gums to swell and bleed.
This is a very painful condition and should be treated immediately. If left untreated it may lead to a more serious condition called periodontitis, which is a condition in which people can even lose their teeth.
You are said to suffer from Gingivitis when you notice swollen and bleeding gums. You also experience sensitive teeth and pain when chewing.
Usually, this condition is treated by your doctor prescribing some antibiotics, which may take long to work. In such cases, it is better to resort to certain home remedies that will provide you with a good relief.
Here a few home remedies that you can use to help manage your bleeding gums and provide you with a soothing relief, take a look.
1) Salt Water Rinsing:
Salt is the most natural remedy used to treat any kind to infections in the mouth. It is a powerful anti-inflammatory as well as antiseptic, which will immediately kill the problem-causing bacteria and reduce swelling and pain.
Gargle with 1 teaspoon of salt mixed into a glass of lukewarm water several times in a day to find relief from swelling.
2) Peppermint Oil:
Peppermint oil is very effective in treating a number of gum diseases and this makes it a regular ingredient in oral hygiene products. It effectively kills the bad bacteria in the mouth and reduces the swelling. The amazing smell of peppermint oil also keeps bad breath away.
Massage a few drops of peppermint oil directly onto the gums for a soothing relief.
3) Cinnamon Bark:
Cinnamon is a strong anti-bacterial. It helps treat tooth decay and also resists the formation of plague, the main cause of gingivitis. It also provides fresh breath.
Make a paste of fresh cinnamon powder with water and massage it onto the gums. Leave it on for 2 minutes and rinse.
4) Include Dairy Products:
Dairy products are rich in calcium, which is good for the bones. Calcium helps seal the gap in the gums where the bacteria grows. This will lessen the swelling and redness immediately.
Consume dairy products such as milk and cheese regularly.
5) Lavender Oil:
Lavender oil is a good anti-bacterial. Massaging lavender oil in the gums will also increase blood circulation to the area and decrease swelling and pain. It will seal the teeth and gums and prevent the spreading of germs.
Add a few drops of lavender essential oil in a glass of warm water and use it to gargle.
Calendula flower is known for its healing benefits. It is a good anti-inflammatory and anti-parasitic and reduces the build-up of plague. This herb is also a natural detoxifier and increases blood circulation. It is known to strengthen the gum tissues and make the teeth stronger.
Take a few fresh petals of marigold flower and boil it in a glass of water. Strain and use this as a mouth wash or rinse.
7) Oil Pulling:
Oil pulling is a very ancient remedy which was used for better oral hygiene. It is basically a mix of essential oils which is whooshed around the mouth. This action kills the bacteria in the mouth, strengthens the teeth, freshens the breath and also is good for gum health.
Take ½ a teaspoon each of sesame oil, coconut oil and a few drops of tea tree oil. Swish it in your mouth for a good 10 minutes and spit it out. Do this regularly to improve your oral hygiene.
8) Eat Crunchy Foods Like Carrots:
Eating raw veggies helps strengthening the teeth. They also help prevent bad breath. Raw veggies contain the highest amount of vitamins C and D, which are known to reduce the occurrence of gingivitis. Chewing veggies helps improve blood circulation and reduces bleeding.
Munch on carrots, turnips and tomatoes before your meals, which will be good for your oral hygiene.
