Eid-ul-Fitr is a religious and holy event for the Muslims. It is the day that is celebrated after the holy month of Ramadan or Ramzan. Ramzan is followed in the ninth month of the Islamic calendar and is observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting to commemorate the first revelation of Quran to the Muhammed, according to the Islamic belief.
Fasting during this month is obligatory for adults. While fasting from dawn until sunset, Muslims refrain from consuming food, drinking liquids, smoking, and engaging in sexual relations.
A month-long change in the food timings and then suddenly tending to overeat on the day of Eid can give rise to certain health problems.
Some people break their fast in a sensible and gentle way, keeping in mind the calories they are taking in. They start with a soup or juice, while others tend to eat their full meals all of a sudden.
So, today, in this article, we will be explaining about a few of the common health problems that are faced due to overeating during the Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations. Take a look and do make sure to eat light and avoid high-calorie or oily foods.
1. Gastric Problem:
One of the most common problems that is often reported from overeating is gastric problem and stomach bloating. When you rush to eat a large amount of food, you end up having abdominal pain in about an hour or so. Problems arise during Iftar when someone who has been fasting for 13 to 14 hours starts consuming too many liquids and eats too much of carbohydrate-rich food in a short period of time.
When you eat a large amount of food all at one time, the foods fail to get digested. More so when you eat rich foods, which are high in oil content. This often causes nausea and vomiting.
3. Abdomen Pain:
Fasting for a month, and then having food at odd hours itself can cause stomach problems. So as the one-month fasting period comes to an end, you then have a feast. This feast calls for eating sumptuous food all at one go. Note that this can cause abdominal pain for majority of the people.
4. Lack Of Energy:
When you have too much food in the stomach, the pressure in your stomach would be too high. This causes the gastric acid to flow back up and lead to heartburn. Due to the limited digestive enzymes in the stomach, the excess food will take a longer period of time to be digested and this slows down the digestion process. The fullness of the stomach would cause pain and discomfort and will make you feel lethargic. Thus, you will have lack of energy.
5. Rise In The Blood Sugar Level:
A month-long fasting and then eating all sorts of rich oily foods, along with sweets all at a time, can make things worse and give rise to increased blood sugar levels in the body.
Hence, in order to avoid all these health issues during the festival time, it is important to be careful and make a healthy choice of food that you eat.
