Top 5 Expert-Recommended Ayurvedic Tips To Take Care Of Your Body This Monsoon
Listed here are tips from experts to prevent monsoon infections. Check them out.
Ayurveda is considered as a way of living. It works on the universal principle that our bodies are made up of unique blends of doshas - Vata, Pitta and Kapha.
Doshas are nothing but the energies that make up an individual and they perform various physiological functions.
These doshas connect the physical and mental state of a person to the outside environment.
The doshas vary in degree during each season. For the monsoon season, almost all the doshas go out of balance with Pitta being the highest.
The human body undergoes various changes due to this sudden seasonal change. Hence, Ayurveda suggests practicing Ritucharya - ayurvedic lifestyle according to the seasons.
The type of Ayurvedic lifestyle to be followed during the monsoon season is Varsha Ritucharya.
It recommends making changes to the diet and way of living to maintain a healthy body and keep diseases at bay.
When monsoon is around the corner, it is important to know some tips to take care of your body.
Watch What You Eat
The digestive system of a person becomes very vulnerable during the monsoon season. The digestion capacity of the stomach known as ‘Agni' slows down drastically making a person more prone to suffer from illnesses. So, eat according to your digestion capacity.
It is highly recommended to consume foods that are easy to digest. Some of them include rice, barley, ghee, garlic, wheat, oats, lean meat, lentils and green gram. Avoid very spicy, raw and fermented foods. Do not eat curd and red meat.
Prefer Seasonal Fruits And Veggies
It is wiser to prefer seasonal produce when the monsoon season arrives at your doorstep. This is because microbes can easily thrive on off-seasonal produce and affect the gut faster than any other time of the year.
One can have yam and most of the gourd varieties. It is good to opt for foods that taste bitter as they have the capacity to fight the microbes in the stomach, thus preventing a health issue. Fruits to be had include pomegranates, apples, bananas, lychees and cherries.
Avoid A Day Nap
Ayurveda experts never suggest a nap during daytime in the monsoon season. This is because the naturally slowed down digestion process gets even slower when one goes to sleep.
Most importantly, never sleep after a meal. The ‘Agni' (digestion capacity) can be increased by including pepper, ginger, coriander, garlic, cumin powder, hing and turmeric in freshly prepared foods.
Undergo A Treatment In Panchakarma
Panchakarma is a five-fold therapy done by expert Ayurvedic therapists to remove toxins from the body that accumulate over time due to ill health. The therapy corrects the imbalances of the body and helps maintain good mental and physical hygiene. The treatment includes massages, oil baths, nasal administrations and herbal enemas. It can be customised to a person's needs.
Opt For Low-impact Exercises
Strenuous forms of exercise must be avoided completely. Exercises are meant to keep the body fit but when overdone can cause health issues, especially when the body is already in a weak state by nature during monsoon. Indulge in a swim, stretch out a bit and go for a walk. Yoga can also be done which helps you relax in the comfort of your home.
