Most Common Causes Of UTI

Most urinary tract infections occur due to Escherichia coli or E coli bacteria, which is found in the colon. Even though urinary tract infections affect both the sexes, females are usually more predisposed towards such infections, as in females the urethra is short and in close proximity to the anus. This is the primary reason why females suffer more from UTI than men.

The bacteria can lead to an infection in your urinary bladder and spread to your kidneys. The bladder infections are due to the bacteria that invade your urinary bladder after entering through the urethra. Initially your urinary bladder gets contaminated by the E coli bacteria wherein you might have symptoms like low fever, urination along with pain, etc.

Urinary tract infection symptoms become serious once the disease spreads to your kidneys. The normal urinary tract infection treatment includes antibiotic drugs taken for several days. Length of your treatment and the kind of drug depends upon the urine tests which are carried out to identify the main cause of your infection.

There are several reasons responsible for urinary tract infections. Constipation and loose motions, both can cause urinary tract infections. In case of constipation, the trapped bacteria and in case of loose motion, the bacteria in the loose stool is responsible for urinary tract infections.

Diabetes can cause urinary tract infections. When you have high blood sugar levels, the excess sugar gets flushed through the urine. This becomes a common ground for bacterial overgrowth. This bacteria can cause urinary tract infections.

You can get urinary tract infections if you hold your urine for more than six hours at a stretch. This allows time for the bacteria in the bladder to thrive and grow for a long period of time. Hence it is essential to empty your bladder at regular intervals of time.

Other common causes are the usage of dirty pads and tampons, kidney stones and dehydration. All these allow the bacteria to grow inside your bladder and cause urinary tract infections.
