Every woman there is no escaping that painful part of the month. And to make this period pass comfortably there are foods to eat during periods that ease the pain, bloating and discomfort.

But the flip side of all this is that having regular periods is a sign that you are a healthy woman and leading a normal life.

No doubt having a healthy lifestyle ensures that your menstrual cycles come on a regular basis with no hiccups. But this regular cycle also comes with discomfort.

The intensity may vary for each individual but cannot be negated. What can be done is to include healthy foods to eat during periods.

And these are no exotic foods but the very simple foods we have on a regular basis.

• Water
Never ever underestimate the qualities of this natural and refreshing drink. During your periods be sure to have lots of water.

Having your two liters of water everyday will keep you well hydrated and bring about a balance in all that you lose.

There may be an urge to grab that hot cup of coffee or tea but control your cravings as these caffeinated drinks may only increase the discomfort.

• Bananas
One of the best sources of potassium, rich in B vitamins and a regulator of bowel movement is the humble fruit banana.

When going through your periods include one to two bananas everyday to get your benefits and sail through. You can even have a banana smoothie to have the double benefit of calcium.

• Berries
Raspberries, cranberries, strawberries, blueberries, cherries – the very name of these brings about wonderful thoughts.

• Calcium
Have calcium in whatever form you prefer - be it dairy or non-dairy. In the dairy list there are tasty and appealing options available.

You can go for milk, yogurt, buttermilk and cheese. Apart from this there is the dark green broccoli and kale.

• Chocolates
The presence of caffeine and loads of sugar in chocolate does make it a debatable food to have during periods but it has its benefits too.

If you go for the very dark variety you will give yourself a good dose of magnesium which is essential during these days.

Also, chocolate releases serotonin, the feel good chemical, which may help elevate your mood during these days.

• Fish
If you love fish you will love to indulge in tuna and salmon during your periods. Both fish are rich in omega 3 and play a helpful role in relaxing your muscles, the very thing needed during painful cramps.

• Red Meat
As you know during periods you lose a good amount of blood. This means that your diet in these days should include sources of iron and what better source than read meat.

If you love red meat this is the time to indulge as on other days you would have to restrain from it.

• Nuts And Seeds
On those uncomfortable and painful days you might want to grab a snack once in a while. Instead of heading for some fried and fat laden snack go for nuts and seeds.

They are loaded with vitamins and filling as well. But have ones that are free of added sugar, salt or candied.

Let’s face it; there is no escaping the periods. All that can be done is to make the days comfortable. While including appropriate foods to eat during periods also try to have a regular exercise regime to keep your body fit.

An exercised body is better prepared for periods and there is minimum discomfort.
