Having bad breath can be really embarrassing both socially and personally. Bad breath or halitosis can be due to improper oral hygiene or gastrointestinal health. Halitosis doesn't originate only in the mouth but also comes from the digestion tract. Bacteria and food are common causes of halitosis. Apart from brushing twice a day and maintaining oral hygiene, you should have the right food to treat bad breath. Here are list of foods which can treat bad breath or halitosis naturally!

Food to cure bad breath:

Vitamin C rich food: Citrus fruits are rich in Vitamin C and this prevents bacteria from growing in the mouth and causing mouth odour. Having Vitamin C rich food also reduces the chances of suffering from mouth diseases in gums and also gingivitis, common causes of halitosis. Cherries, strawberries, lemon and oranges are effective to treat halitosis naturally. You can also have apples and carrots to get rid of mouth odour.

Lemon: Suck a lemon slice after every meal. You can even rub a slice on the teeth to cure bad breath naturally. The citric acid in lemon kills the bacteria in the mouth and also cuts down the smell of onion, ginger or garlic smell from the breath.

Spices: Cardamom, cloves and ajwain seeds are effective spices to cure bad breath naturally. These spices are also known for their mouth freshening flavours. Have these after food to treat halitosis.

Guava leaves: It is believed that munching guava leaves whitens the teeth and cures bad breath naturally. You can also have coriander leaves and mint leaves to get rid of mouth odour.

Yogurt: According to researchers, yogurt reduces the growth of sulfite in the mouth which causes bad breath. It also kills bacteria in the mouth therefore, a natural cure for bad breath. Have low fat, sugar free yogurt for effective results. Avoid having sweet yogurt as it leads to bacterial growth in the mouth.
