Some of the fruits that contain high quantities of vitamins C and E are kiwis and oranges. Such fruits can reduce lung swelling and inflammation.

Fresh and green leafy vegetables make a good diet plan for asthma patients. They contain a high amount of vitamins and flavonoids that destroy the free radicals in the body. These free radicals are toxins in the body which can aggravate the asthmatic conditions.


Include Nuts:

Nuts are high in magnesium and vitamin E, hence they make a healthy snack for asthma patients. Magnesium protects against wheezing that accompanies asthma, whereas vitamin E boosts immunity, while simultaneously protecting the body from free radicals that can cause tissue damage and inflammation.


Include Whole Grains:

Studies have proved that increased consumption of whole grains can reduce the risk of childhood asthma by as much as 50%.


Include Legumes:

Legumes contain low calories and low fat content and can act as one of the best anti-asthma foods. The high-fibre content in legumes can reduce the lipids and cholesterol in the body. This helps to prevent the attack of foreign particles, causing respiratory allergies. The fat-soluble particles in legumes inhibit the attack of bacteria and viruses causing cold and flu due to asthma.


Include Olive Oil - Omega-3 Fat:

Omega-3 fatty acids are found in fish like sardines, salmon and tuna and also in some plant resources like olives and flax seeds. It is not a proven fact that this can help asthma patients; however, it is good for them to include these in the diet.


Avoid Lemon Juice:

Lemon is rich in vitamin C and minimal quantities of lemon juice for asthma patients is fine. However, drinking too much of lemon juice or lemon water can induce heartburn. Also, the sulphites and sulphiting agents in lemon can trigger asthma. So, for people who are allergic to lemon and have asthmatic conditions already, it is better that they avoid lemon juice.


Avoid Wine:

Wine again contains preservatives called sulphites, which can trigger asthma attacks. However, there is a mixed feedback on the research done about the wine consumption for asthma patients. Given that the results are not clear, it is better that asthma patients avoid this.


Avoid Excess Milk:

Milk consumption has a mixed feedback on asthma as well. Milk is one of the best sources of vitamin D and can actually ease the symptoms of asthma. However, there are people who are allergic to milk, and this may lead to wheezing, coughing and other respiratory problems. It is better to be safe on any kind of food consumption instead of taking a risk. For asthma patients, it is better that they keep a track of all the food allergies and avoid them accordingly.


Avoid Excess Eggs:

Eggs could be one major reason for asthmatic conditions. Especially in children suffering from asthma, it is better to avoid eggs and egg products.
