Can Starch And Protein Be Consumed Together?
There are a millions of dieting disasters that many people make every day. However, the most common and dangerous is when protein and starch should not be consumed together. It just doesn't work.
Most
people
believe
it’s
a
myth
but,
there
are
several
medical
and
scientific
reasons
why
protein
and
starch
should
not
be
consumed
together.
Food
Combinations
That
Are
Toxic
But to understand why proteins and starch should not be consumed together, we need to understand what are proteins and starch and their functions in our body.
Proteins
Proteins
are
large
biological
molecules
that
are
made
up
of
one
or
many
chains
of
amino
acids.
Hence,
it
is
acidic
in
nature
and
performs
a
huge
variety
of
tasks
in
our
body.
Proteins is one of the most essential components for our bones, muscles and many other parts and functions of our body. Some of the protein containing foods is:
Nuts, soy-bean, dry peas/beans
Soy products, fish, cheese
Yoghurt, milk, eggs
Poultry, meats, lentils & seeds.
Starch
Starch
is
a
carbohydrate
consisting
of
a
large
number
of
glucose
units
joined
together
by
glycosidic
acids.
These
polysaccharides
are
produced
by
most
of
the
plants
and
stored
for
energy.
It is an important and common part of the human diet and is essential for producing energy and many other tasks in our body. However, starch is alkaline by nature.
Some of the foods that are rich in starch are:
Carrots, parsnips, corn,
Brown rice, pasta, grains,
Legumes, potatoes, winter,
Squash, wild rice & bread.
Two important reasons why protein and starch should not be consumed together:
Acid
Alkaline
Combination
Proteins
and
starch
should
not
be
consumed
together!
This
is
mainly
due
to
the
fact
that
there
are
two
distinct
types
of
digestive
patterns
that
our
body
follows.
An Acid Digestions For Proteins
An alkaline digestion for foods rich in carbohydrates such as sugar and starches.
It is a known fact that most of the proteins are digested in the stomach by the help of digestive juices.
This is an acidic reaction since most of the elements of digestive juices are hydrochloric acid.
However, starch is not digested in the stomach; instead it is broken down in the small intestine with the aid of pancreatic secretions. An alkaline medium is essential for the breakdown of the starch molecules and absorbed by the body.
But this can be hampered as the starch molecules have the property to combine with the hydrochloric acid in the stomach and all along its way to the intestine. This hampers the digestive process in the stomach of proteins. Hence, proteins and starch should not be consumed together.
Bad
For
Digestion
Due
to
the
above
mentioned
reasons
the
digestive
system
starts
malfunctioning
leading
to
unhealthy
digestion.
The
starch
and
proteins
are
two
of
the
toughest
foods
to
breakdown
and
utilize
and
they
both
need
different
bases
for
the
process.
This is the reason why proteins and starch should not be consumed together, as it would lead to bloating, gas, indigestion, heartburn and discomfort in many more ways.
Many people experience these side effects on regular basis but are unable to decipher the underlying causes. So it is essential to eat right to remain healthy!!
