Colour Of Your Food And The Nutrition In It:
1. Green Vegetables & Fruits:
As this is the most popular kind of healthy food, let us start with it. The colour green obviously comes from the chlorophyll found in plants. What is absorbed by the human body is lutein that is great for your eyes and also helps reverse ageing.
Vitamin B can be found in abundance in these green veggies and folate (a folic acid compound) will be found mostly in dark green leafy vegetables. A good spread of green foods would include grapes, avocados, cucumber, cruciferous vegetables, leaves like spinach, fenugreek, etc.
2. Red Vegetables & Fruits:
Red is the colour of youth and warm blood, and that is what you get from this group. The colour red comes from lycopene and it has major cancer-fighting properties.
Anthocyanins on the other hand are special variety of antioxidants found in berries that can keep you youthful and help regenerate your tissues. Red vegetables like beetroot and fruits like pomegranates can help increase blood count. A good spread will include tomatoes, red peppers, berries, etc.
3. Yellow Or Orange Fruits & Vegetables:
You can stretch this category to include the orange fruits and vegetables too because in this category (orange to yellow) all the foods get their colour from beta-carotene. These yellow fruits and vegetables will give you healthy eyes, muscles and lungs; the citrus fruits give you energy and also are the best cure for minor respiratory disorders.
You will never have to worry about cramps and muscle pulls because carotenes are responsible for muscle health. A good spread could be made interesting with oranges, mangoes, pumpkins, carrots, etc.
4. Purple Or Blue Fruits & Vegetables:
Can't think of any? Well, you consume them without knowing and they in turn give you anthocyanins of another kind. This chemical is anti-cancer and great for heart health.
In fact, you could also get 'good memory' as a bonus by eating purple-coloured food. A good spread includes eggplant, prunes, blueberries, grapes, raisins, etc.
5. White Fruits & Vegetables:
Like every other colourful fruits and vegetables, white too has significant health benefits.
Banana, mushroom, cauliflower and garlic are the major white-coloured fruits and vegetables that are loaded with beta-glucans and lignans that help in boosting the immune system and also have natural properties that help in killing the cancer cells.
