12 Herbal Remedies To Treat Ringworms

Ringworm is a very popular infectious skin disease which is mainly caused by "Trichophytonrubrum" fungus. This fungus grows in hot and humid areas and may infect a number of regions of your skin starting from your scalp to your feet.

The most common signs of ringworm are- scaly, itchy and red patches on skin which look unpleasant and also cause extreme irritation.

There are a various chemical treatments to treat ringworm but it is always recommended to first try out the herbal remedies that are easily available in your home.

Make sure to clean the affected area and dry it completely before applying any herbal remedy. The article highlights the 12 herbal remedies to treat ringworm:


Aloe Vera

Aloe vera is quite popular for treating sunburns and a variety of skin issues. It is also one of the 12 herbal remedies to treat ringworm. Just apply the aloe vera juice on your affected skin to heal the ringworm. Repeat the process daily until the disease vanishes.


Lavender Oil

Due to its anti-fungal properties, lavender oil is used to cure ringworm. According to studies, the lavender oil not only stops the growth of fungi but it also kills the fungal infections such as athlete's foot, ringworm and Candidiasis.



Lemongrass is one of the 12 herbal remedies to cure ringworm. You can consume it as tea or you can also rub on the used lemongrass tea bags on the affected areas of your skin. Make sure to drink one cup of tasty lemongrass tea at least thrice a day to treat ringworm.



The antibiotic properties of turmeric make it an awesome herbal remedy to treat ringworm. To use this magic ingredient take out some turmeric juice from fresh turmeric with the help of a juice extractor. Then apply some juice on your affected skin, continue this remedy daily until the malady fades away.


Raw Papaya

Raw papaya has the ability to kill the dead cells from the outermost layer of skin leaving the young cells undamaged. This is because papaya contains some important enzymes like chymopapain and papain which ruin the defense armors of yeasts, viruses and a variety of fungus.

Hence raw papaya can prove to be an excellent herbal remedy to heal ringworm. Take a few pieces of raw papaya and rub them on your affected skin, leave it for about twenty minutes and then rinse it off with lukewarm water. Repeat this daily for at least 2 to 3 times.


Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV)

Apple cider vinegar is an excellent remedy to treat ringworm. Due to its anti-fungal properties and being highly acidic in nature, it helps to kill the fungi totally if used for prolonged time period on a daily basis.

It can be safely used on pets and kids because of its non-toxic quality. Firstly, clean your affected skin and let it dry, apply ACV on your ringworm using a cotton ball. Repeat this process three to four times daily for three-four weeks to cure the ringworm completely.


Coconut Oil

This is one of the most useful and safest remedies to treat ringworm. The Lauric acid present in the coconut oil helps to kill the fungi and cure ringworm. Take a bit of coconut oil and apply generously on your affected skin, leave it overnight.

Do this on a daily basis for a few weeks until your ringworm completely disappears.


Oregano oil

Oregano leaves contains thymol, carvacrol, terpinine and cymene which help in treating ringworm due to their anti-fungal properties.

Oregano oil also contains 40 to 64% thymol which makes it an excellent home remedy to cure ringworm. Apply three to five drops of oregano oil on your ringworm and repeat it for three to four times daily.



Salt is an outstanding remedy to heal the ringworm. You can soak your affected skin in salt water which will disinfect the affected part. You can also make a paste with some water and sea salt and rub it on your ringworm using a washcloth; this should be done daily for about fifteen to twenty minutes.



Garlic is famous for its anti-fungal properties and hence is an excellent home remedy to heal ringworm. Make a paste with some crushed garlic cloves and some olive oil and apply it on your affected area, leave it for 1 hour and then wash it off with lukewarm water. Do it twice or thrice daily for two to three weeks.


Olive Oil Extract

Due to its anti-fungal and anti viral properties olive leaf can be a very effective remedy to treat ringworm. Not only the olive leaf but the oil extracted from it is also very beneficial in treating ringworm. Make a paste with some olive oil and olive leaf powder and apply it on your affected skin, do it daily for faster results.



Neem is one of the best herbal remedies to heal ringworm because of its anti-bacterial properties. Apply the paste of neem leaves on your ringworm, repeat this process daily for a few weeks until the disease subsides.
