6 Amazing Ayurvedic Remedies To Cure Eczema
Eczema - a medical condition in which skin of the diseased person becomes red, irritated, itchy and dry. Also known as dermatitis, it is mainly common among children below the age of 5.
In the case of kids, eczema rashes start appearing on the face, progressing to hands, feet and scalp, whereas in the case of adults, the rashes mostly show up on the knees and elbows.
Some causes of Eczema could be genetic conditions; it is more prone in the families who have had a history of asthma. Other causes include deficiency of vitamin B6, irregular blood circulation etc.
Weather conditions like extreme heat, change in the temperature, stress, etc, could also act a trigger for the condition.
Those who are already suffering from this condition, or certain harsh chemicals, smoking and detergents could further aggravate this situation.
In Ayurveda , Eczema is referred as "Vicharika", which is caused by the reduction in the effectiveness of the doshas – Kapha, Vata and Pitta.

Ayurveda also recommends some restrictions on the food too. Reducing salt intake, staying away from sour food, taking oil and spices in moderation and favouring Haldi and food with bitter taste such as neem, bitter gourd, etc, are some of the things Ayurveda recommends in case of Eczema.
Several Ayurvedic herbs can be quite effective for those suffering from Eczema. Take a look at some of them.
Aloe Vera
Aloe vera is known for its anti-inflammatory and soothing properties and has been used since time immemorial to cure skin-related problems.
The gel-like fluid, which is obtained when you cut the Aloe Vera leaf, is good for treating skin ailments like burn, wounds and eczema. Its moisturising properties will provide a soothing relief to your dry and itchy skin.
Usage
Cut aloe vera leaves. Take out the colourless gel
Apply this directly on to your irritated and inflamed skin.
Applying regularly will give a soothing effect to your irritated skin.
Honey
A natural herb, honey is known for its antibacterial and antifungal properties. It is recommended in Ayurveda to treat a variety of skin ailments. It has soothing properties that will help in reducing irritations caused by Eczema
Usage
•Wash the inflamed skin and pat it dry.
Apply honey to the area and let it sit for 10 minutes.
•Rinse it with lukewarm water.
•Apply it regularly and you will see better results in a few days.
Neem & Haldi Paste
Neem has anti-inflammatory properties that help in reducing irritation and redness from the skin. Turmeric too has antiseptic, antioxidant and healing properties that help in soothing your skin.
Usage
Take a bunch of neem leaves and make a paste out of it
•Add a tsp of Haldi to it
•You can add a tsp of oil to the mixture, preferably coconut or almond oil.
•Apply it on the aggravated area and let it sit for an hour
•Rinse it dry with warm water
•With its regular application, you can get rid of the itchiness and inflammation
Mahua
Popularly known as Mahua in India, its flowers, barks and leaves are used in many medicines in Ayurveda. Its leaves provide an instant relief from the itching sensation that is experienced in Eczema.
Usage
Take a bunch of Mahua leaves and grind it into a paste. You can find these leaves very easily around you.
Apply this on the affected area and cover it up with a band-aid.
But, be sure to change this band-aid every 3-4 hours once to get relief from the itching sensation.
Cucumber
Its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant property will provide a soothing effect on your inflamed skin. Its soothing property will ease the burning sensation and itching that is experienced in case of eczema.
Usage
•Dab some fresh cucumber juice using a medicated cotton or cotton cloth.
•Let it dry for an hour
•Rinse it with water
Almond
A popular ingredient in beauty and skin products, almond is preferred for its host of beneficial skin properties. It is also a great remedy for those suffering from Eczema. Ursolic and oleic acids present in almond are proven to promote healing and reduce inflammation.
Usage
You can apply pure almond oil generously over the affected area to obtain the desired results.
