Feeling low and hopeless in such situations definitely does not feel good, right?
Well, at least in the above instance, there was an actual reason for you to feel low; however, there are many cases in which people start to feel low and sad for long periods, with or without an apparent reason.
This condition is known as depression and it is one of the most common and also dangerous mental ailments that can affect a human being!
In fact, it is said that depression can be a gateway ailment which can lead to many other mental disorders.
In the worst case scenario, depression can cause suicidal tendencies and lead a person to take his/her own life!
Depression can be described as a mood disorder in which a person feels extremely low, sad, dejected, etc., for a long time.
Depression can be caused by a number of reasons such as, severely negative life incidents such as rejection or death of a loved one, loneliness, lack of a life vision, financial issues, health issues, heredity, pregnancy, etc.
There are a number of hormonal changes and brain chemical fluctuations that occur in a person when he is depressed, making it a major metal ailment that needs treatment.
Now, we know that the key to remaining healthy and preventing diseases is a healthy lifestyle.
Our diet and exercise habits play a major role in helping us avoid a number of diseases, be it physiological or mental.
The food that we consume has an impact on the hormones and chemicals in our body, so it is very important to eat healthy, if we want to be overall healthy.
A recent research study has found that our diet could also be one of the causes of depression.
Read about how that is possible, here.
Link Between Diet And Depression:
This research study conducted by a group of psychiatrists from New York, states that there are certain common foods which we include in our diets on a regular basis, which could induce depression.
Foods such as sugary drinks, pastries, alcoholic beverages, energy drinks, fast foods rich in oil and trans-fat content were shortlisted by the researchers, as foods that can cause depression in people!
There is a chemical component know as Bisphenol-A (BPA), present in many of the above-mentioned food substances, which is known to decrease the production of a brain chemical known as serotonin, thus triggering depression.
Also, when a person consumes foods rich in trans-fats, there is a huge risk of being overweight or obese, and excess body fat can also cause depression.
Excess body fat can not only lead to brain chemical fluctuations, but it can also make a person feel less confident and less attractive, both of which can cause depression.
So, in conclusion, your diet habits can definitely cause depression and hence it is important to eat healthy!
