Earth Day 2016: Everything You Need To Know About Being A Green Fashionista
Eco-friendly and sustainable fashion is catching up, but slowly. This Earth Day, all the fashionistas out there should vow to learn more on ethical fashion and all the good things that would help our planet to curb the bad elements and look at long-term green goals.
Eco-friendly fashion is basically clothes that cannot harm our environment and are created from green materials. The fabric that our clothes generally use can be harmful to the environment due to the amount of chemicals that go into making them.
Sustainable fashion is a design philosophy, which involves a system that can be supported by the human community, creating an environmental and social responsibility. To create eco-friendly fabrics, the materials generally used are natural fibres, cellulose, protein, recycled and up-cycled fibres.
Of late, even Indian designers have been taking a keen interest in the initiative and drawing inspiration from our traditional roots. Anita Dongre's eco-friendly line, Grassroots, garnered a lot of popularity. Fab India, Bhu Sattva and Do You Speak Green are some of the other designer labels in India that create sustainable fashion.
Internationally, we have retail labels as well as high-fashion designers going pro green, Vivienne Westwood, Stella McCartney and many more labels are looking to change the fashion scene and opt for more environment-friendly fabrics.
So, let today be a lesson on realising that even as a fashionista, you could do so much more to help mother earth by just making the ethical fashion choice.
