Dr. Vijayalakshmi I. Balekundri is the former Professor of Paediatric Cardiology at Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research, Bengaluru.

Dr. Vijayalakshmi is the first lady cardiologist of Karnataka.

She is a recipient of Lifetime Achievement Award in Cardiology.

She has set 6 world records and has won the best paper award 6 times, she has also won 33 gold medals and 2 silver medals in the field of Paediatric Cardiology.

She has also been honoured with the Rajyotsava award in 2008.

She has received the Lifetime Achievement Award in Cardiology from Bharat Ratna Late Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam and the then President, Smt. Pratibha Patil.
