Simple Sindhi Moong Dal Recipe

Dal is loved by all. It is one of the main dishes people opt for on a day to day basis. Today, Boldsky shares with you one of the best dal recipes prepared in a Sindhi style. This moong dal recipe is special since you will be adding tomato puree, tempered with jeera and fresh curry leaves.

The Sindhi dal recipe is a must make this afternoon as it goes well with peas pulav if you love rice or phulkas. On the other hand, this recipe is a protein rich one for vegetarians. The Sindhi moong dal recipe contains a lot of proteins since its main ingredient is lentils, which is a great source of vegetarian protein.

Simple Sindhi Moong Dal Recipe

Serves: 4
Preparation Time: 10 minutes
Cooking Time: 30 minutes

All You need

  • Moong dal - 2 cups (soaked)
  • Green Chillies - 2 ( slit or chopped)
  • Ginger - 2 tsp ( chopped)
  • Tomato - ¾ cup (puree)
  • Turmeric Powder - 1 tsp
  • Coriander Leaves - ¾ (chopped)
  • Salt to taste

For The Tadka

  • Oil - 2 tsp
  • Curry leaves - 10 leaves
  • Cumin Seeds - 2 tsp
  • Hing - a pinch

Procedure

  1. You begin by washing the moong dal under running water. Soak the dal for about 25 minutes until the dal is soft to cook.
  2. Now in a vessel add in the soaked moong dal and water. Cook for about 5 min. Now add to the dal the chopped green chili, ginger, turmeric powder, salt to taste and cook for about 30 min till the daal is half cooked well.
  3. When the dal is almost done, mash it with the hand blender. Mash till the dal is reduced in smooth puree and no grains are left.
  4. The fresh tomato puree is now added to the vessel and so is the coriander leaves. You need to mix in the puree well with the other contents and allow it to cook for about 10 minutes.
  5. When this is done, prepare the tempering.

To temper Sindhi moong dal

  1. In a tadka pan, heat a little oil. When the oil is hot, add in cumin seeds. After the cumin seeds turn brown, add to the tadka the asafoetida and curry leaves.
  2. Now pour the tadka over the dal and stir it well.
  3. Add the coriander leaves on top for garnishing.
  4. Your yummy sindhi moong dal is ready.

Nutrition Value
The Sindhi moong dal (mung dal) is easy on stomach and protein rich too. The yellow moong dal as such is easily digested compared to other dals.

Tip
It is best not to add too much of tomato puree as it will give out a tangy flavour.
