Authentic Davangere Benne Dosa Recipe

Golden brown, crispy and savoury, that's the speciality of the “Davangere Benne Dosa". The special dosa is prepared in the Karnataka district and the travellers who pass by will never miss to relish the crispy pancakes. The dosa recipe is unique and tastes very authentic. Davangere benne dosas are masala dosas but the potato stuffing is served separately in a plate unlike in other south Indian restaurants. The salted boiled potatoes are mashed and mixed with onions. The chutney is more spicy than the potato stuffing and the dosas are fried only with ghee (clarified butter) or butter. Take a look to know how to prepare the davangere benne dosa.

Davangere Benne Dosa Recipe
Ingredients:

For Dosa:
4 cups rice (soaked 5 hours)
1 cup urad dal (soaked 5 hours)
' puffed rice
1 tsp fenugreek seeds
1 tsp sugar
Salt according to taste
Pinch of baking soda

For Masala:
2 potatoes (boiled, peeled, mashed)
Onions (ghee fried)
Salt according to taste

For Chutney:
1 cup fresh coconut grated
4 green chillies
1 tsp sugar
A small piece ginger
Chopped coriander leaves
3 tsps fried gram
Pinch of asafoetida
1 tsp oil
' tsp mustard seeds
Salt as per requirement.

Procedure:
1. Grind the dosa ingredients into smooth batter and refrigerate the batter overnight.
2. On a hot pan, spread the batter like pancakes (thin) and fry both sides with ghee.
3. Combine all the masala ingredients.
4. Grind the chutney ingredients into thick paste. Serve the ghee fried golden dosa with a portion of masala and chutney. Delicious davangere benne dosa is ready.
While serving the dosa recipe, add little butter on the dosa and serve.
