Ramzan Special: Dates And Nuts Ladoo
This sweet delicacy is what you can try on the occasion of Ramzan. Read to know the recipe for the dates and nuts ladoo.
Ramzan is just around the corner. Ramzan is celebrated in the ninth month of the year. It is believed that Prophet Muhammad gave out the first sermon of the Quran during this month. The month of Ramzan is spent in piety of the mind.
People tune their mind and body towards spirituality during this month. Muslims attend the spiritual discourses and hold get together for friends and family. The holy month of Ramzan calls for devotion, fasting and food that is made to break the fast every evening.
Ramzan Ifthar food is mainly made up of rich and delicious items. The food is typically rich in calories, as it is required to keep up energy during the strenuous fasting period. But the food that is used to break the fast often is of the low calorie and easily digestible type.
The idea is to ingest food that is not hard on the body, which has been starved of nutrition for a long period of time. The food needs to be high in nutrition and must refuel the needs of the body. Traditionally, dry dates and water were used to break the fast. These days, fruit juices, fresh and dry fruits have become the norm.
It is also important that the food used to break the fast must be easy and quick to prepare too. The women folk who toil in the kitchen to prepare the Iftar feast need an easy way to refuel themselves before continuing their preparation.
Today, we have an easy and quick dish for you, dear ladies. This dish can be made with dates and nuts that were traditionally used to break the fast. The method mentioned here uses the microwave oven, making it easier to prepare this dish.
You can make this recipe using the stove too. It is sugar free and fat free, thus making it healthy for even the elderly.
Ingredients:
- Pitted Dates - 20 large
- Chopped mixed dry fruits (kismis, cashew, badam, pista) - 1 cup
- Dessicated coconut
Method:
- Take a microwaveable tray and add the chopped nuts. Roast the nuts for two minutes on high flame. Stir in between to roast the nuts evenly.
- Now, add the pitted dates to the same tray and heat them for another 30 to 40 seconds or until they turn soft.
- Take the tray out and add the dessicated coconut.
- Blend the mixture for a couple of minutes when the mixture cools down a little.
- Take the blended mixture out on the tray. Use your hands to take small portions of the mixture. Mould them into little balls.
- Roll these balls in dessicated coconut for a festive look.
- You can also add chocolate chips, sesame seeds, pumpkin seeds or peanuts to the ladoos.
