How To Use Sesame Oil For Skin

1. For acne

Used since ancient times for skin care, turmeric helps to improve skin health and effectively treat skin issues such as acne.[3]

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 2 tsp turmeric powder

Method of use

  • Mix both the ingredients together in a bowl.
  • Wash your face using lukewarm water and pat dry.
  • Apply the mixture on your face.
  • Leave it on for 15 minutes to dry.
  • Rinse it off thoroughly later.

2. To exfoliate your skin

Besides being a great skin exfoliant, brown sugar also helps to prevent skin ageing caused by the harmful UV rays.[4]

Ingredients

  • ½ tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp olive oil

Method of use

  • Take brown sugar in a bowl.
  • Add sesame oil and olive oil to this and mix well.
  • Use this mixture to scrub your face for a few minutes.
  • Rinse it off thoroughly later using lukewarm water.

3. For dry skin

Almond oil has emollient properties that help to keep the skin hydrated to leave you with a smooth and rejuvenated skin.[5]

  • ½ tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tsp almond oil

Method of use

  • Mix both the oils together in a bowl.
  • Apply the resultant concoction to your face.
  • Leave it on for about 15 minutes.
  • Rinse it off thoroughly using lukewarm water.

4. For blackheads

Sesame oil, when blended together with rosemary oil, helps to keep the harmful bacteria at bay and control the sebum production in the skin to prevent blackheads.[6]

Ingredients

  • ½ tsp sesame oil
  • 2-3 drops of rosemary essential oil

Method of use

  • Take the sesame oil in a bowl.
  • Add rosemary oil drops to this and give it a good mix.
  • Apply the concoction on the affected areas.
  • Leave it on for 20 minutes.
  • Rinse it off using lukewarm water.
  • Finish it off with some moisturiser.

5. To prevent skin ageing

Aloe vera gel boosts the collagen production in the skin to improve skin elasticity and firmness and hence prevent signs of skin ageing such as fine lines and wrinkles.[7]

Ingredients

  • ½ tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp aloe vera gel

Method of use

  • Take the sesame oil in a bowl.
  • Add aloe vera gel to this and mix both the ingredients together well.
  • Apply an even layer of this mixture on your face and neck.
  • Leave it on for 15 minutes to dry.
  • Rinse it off using lukewarm water.

6. For smooth skin

Being a strong antioxidant vitamin E helps to prevent the skin from free radical damage and leave you with a smooth, soft and rejuvenated skin. Besides, it also helps to protect the skin from the harmful UV rays.[8]

Ingredients

  • 5-6 drops of sesame oil
  • 1 vitamin E capsule

Method of use

  • Take the sesame oil in a bowl.
  • Prick the vitamin E capsule and add its content into the bowl. Mix well.
  • Apply the mixture all over your face.
  • Leave it on for about 10 minutes.
  • Rinse it off using a mild cleanser and lukewarm water.

7. For suntan

Apart from possessing anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and antibacterial properties, carrot seed oil contains a high SPF value to protect your skin from the sun and thus this blend is a great remedy to reduce the suntan and nourish your skin as well.[9]

Ingredients

  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 4-5 drops of carrot seed oil

Method of use

  • In a bowl, add the sesame oil.
  • Add castor seed oil drops to this and mix well.
  • Apply the mixture on the affected area.
  • Leave it on for 10-15 minutes.
  • Rinse it off thoroughly later.
