The Best Skin Treatment – Laser Peel
Here is all that you need to know about the latest skin treatment – laser peel, take a look.
Great skin is desired by all of us. Everyone wishes to preserve the youthful glow of their twenties. Flawless skin is the prerequisite for any kind of makeup to stand out. The increasingly toxic environment has taken its toll on our skin's health.
One has to deal with problems like pigmentation, acne, fine lines and wrinkles from a relatively early age. Most women, today, begin to see fine lines in their mid-twenties.
Anti-ageing creams and facelifts alone are not enough to combat this accelerated process of skin ageing. Why look old when you are not? The solution to this is laser resurfacing also known as laser peel.
Laser peel is a dermal technique that uses laser pulses to cause minor cell damage to the top layer of the skin, thus accelerating the skin renewal process and slowing down the early ageing and photo ageing process.
This is done either by vaporizing the damaged tissues or by making small bruises on the skin. The former is called non-ablative and the latter is called ablative laser resurfacing.
Benefits Of Laser Peel
- Reduced wrinkles and fine lines
- Removal of acne and scars
- Reduced pigmentation
- Glowing youthful skin
- Removal of warts and other types of skin growths
Types Of Laser Peel/Resurfacing
Ablative Laser Peel
Ablative laser peel is the older technique of laser resurfacing, the one that originally came to be known as 'laser peel'. The top layer of the skin is removed completely or partially, hence the name. Partial removal of the skin is called fractional ablative laser resurfacing.
Non-ablative Laser Resurfacing
Non-ablative laser surfacing does not require removal of the skin. It instead uses micro-pulses to penetrate the skin and vaporize the damaged tissues, thus triggering collagen response.
The formation of new collagen gives the skin a youthful glow and reduces fine lines and wrinkles. This, however, is not as effective in the removal of scars as the ablative method.
Non-ablative laser resurfacing is done fractionally and can be combined with fractional ablative laser peels if you are dealing with both ageing and pigmentation.
Things To Keep In Mind Prior To The Procedure
1. Consult your physician and get a full medical checkup to make sure you do not have any infections or underlying health conditions that might create complications.
In case you do, your doctor will prescribe some extra precautions. Apart from that, there will be some general guidelines such as to avoid medicines (like aspirin) and any other medication that thins the blood or prevents clotting.
2. If you smoke you will have to stop completely at least a week before. The same goes for alcohol intake. Otherwise, you risk prolonging the recovery period and may not get the desired results.
3. If you have dark skin, you may need to be more careful because laser treatments may increase pigmentation in the naturally pigmented skin.
There are still ways in which this could work for you, you just may have to get some additional consultation regarding your skin, as the doctor will want to test the response of your skin to the laser.
4. Avoid sun exposure before and after the procedure and till well after the recovery period. Recovery generally takes about two weeks. No matter what time of the day, apply sunscreen.
5. Keep yourself hydrated.
After The Procedure
1. You will experience redness and swelling for quite some time after the procedure, typically a month or two. The doctor will prescribe some pain medications. It is important to take only the medicines prescribed by your doctor. Any other self-medication can cause complications.
6. Do not apply makeup until the doctor says it is safe to do so.
7. Do not step out for the first week after the treatment. After that too, get an okay from your doctor first. Avoid the peak sun hours, that is, from late morning till afternoon.
Cost Of The Laser Peel Skin Treatment
The cost of laser resurfacing usually varies between 3000 and 8000 INR per session. It also depends greatly on the area that needs to be treated and the skin conditions at hand. Ablative laser resurfacing costs more than the non-ablative one.
To sum up, laser peels are effective and worth the investment, given that the correct procedure is followed, beginning from precautions to post-treatment care.
