DIY Scrubs To Moisturise & Whiten Your Skin
It's that time of the year where there is a constant change in the weather. And it starts taking a toll on your skin. As your face is the most exposed part of the body, it has to brave through traffic, pollution, extreme weather conditions, etc. Sometimes, your face just needs some extra TLC.
Apart from the usual CTM routine (Cleansing, Toning, Moisturizing), there is another important step to follow, Scrubbing - for all skin types. Due to external elements, a layer of dead skin forms on the face and it becomes important to exfoliate the skin on a regular basis.
It is assumed that dry skin does not require scrubbing, as it can only worsen the condition. But using the right kind of ingredients can have a magical effect on your skin. Ingredients like honey, brown sugar and lemon not only help in exfoliating, but also moisturise and lighten the skin tone, giving you a brighter and fresher looking skin.
Here are some simple DIY scrubs that are suitable for dry skin and what more - they are great moisturisers too!
1) Brown Sugar And Honey Scrub
Honey is a great moisturiser and sugar is also full of glycolic acid, an alpha-hydroxyl acid, that is crucial for maintaining a healthy skin. The combination of these two can do wonders to your skin.
Ingredients:
- 1 tablespoon of plain honey
- 1 tablespoon of brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon of olive oil
- 1 drop of your favourite essential oil (lavender, jasmine, rose, geranium, bergamot are all nice).
Procedure:
- Mix all the ingredients in a bowl and apply the mixture on to the skin.
- Massage in a circular motion to ensure you are removing the dead skin from your face.
- Rinse with warm water and press the skin with a warm washcloth.
2) Lemon, Honey And Brown Sugar Face And Body Scrub
Lemon, a great source of vitamin C, is used to lighten the sun spots and brown spots and even the skin tone. Honey has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial compounds. Brown sugar, on the other hand, is a natural humectant, i.e., it draws moisture from the environment into the skin. So, when you apply sugar on your skin, it actually helps moisturise it. Just use this scrub all over the body before a shower to achieve its maximum effect.
Ingredients:
- ½ cut fresh lemon
- ½ cup brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon of olive oil
- 1 tablespoon of organic honey
Procedure:
- Add lemon juice and olive oil to a bowl.
- Add the honey and whisk everything together, till the mixture achieves a medium-to-thick consistency.
- Apply to a clean face and body with gentle circular strokes.
Remember:
Make a new batch every two or three weeks once, to ensure that the ingredients work as effectively as possible.
3) Lemon And Brown Sugar Scrub
This facial scrub is one of the easiest and most enjoyable ones. The skin after this feels like a baby's skin. Adding lemon to brown sugar is great. It gives a nice smell and some extra-exfoliating effect. And if it gets to your mouth, it tastes delicious too!
Ingredients:
- 1 tablespoon of brown sugar
- 1/2 lemon
- 2 teaspoons of ground oatmeal
Preparation:
- Squeeze a tablespoon of lemon juice.
- Add the brown sugar and oatmeal.
- Thoroughly mix all the ingredients and rub the scrub onto the skin with gentle circular motions.
- Massage your face for three minutes.
- Leave the scrub on your face for 10 minutes or wash it off immediately if desired.
- Blot the face with a clean towel.
- After trying this, don't look in the mirror. Touch your face to feel the scrub's magic.
4) Coffee Powder And Sugar Scrub
I am no health expert, and will never claim to be, but coffee apparently can do all sorts of good things to your skin. Coffee diminishes the appearance of cellulite and tightens the skin, making it appear firm. Plus, the smell of coffee is amazing!
Ingredients:
- 1 tablespoon of ground coffee
- 1 tablespoon of sugar
- 1 teaspoon of coconut/olive oil
Preparation:
- Just mix everything up in a bowl and use it just like how you would use a regular scrub. It's completely natural and a great way to use leftover coffee grounds.
- The above-mentioned scrubs are easy to make and will instantly leave your skin refreshed from the inside and you, from the outside!
