DIY Organic Face Powder
Many of us are fine stepping out of the house without makeup, but without a fine dusting of face powder, never! We need face powder to keep the excess oil in check, brighten the skin, and of course, for protection against outside elements. However, that little compact box, which has become an essential part our lives, does more damage than good.
Many mineral-based face powders come with nano particles of zinc and titanium, which supposedly protect the skin against UV rays, and brighten it without giving it a whitish effect. However, recent studies suggest that regular-sized particles of zinc and titanium are safe and non-toxic, but tiny particles can react on the skin adversely.

Some of the side effects associated with the products can include accelerated signs of aging, damaged skin cells and an increase in the production of cancer causing free radicals. To avoid this and more, the wise thing to do is to switch to natural alternatives instead.
Here is a 100% organic face powder recipe that will give you the compact effect you are looking for minus the chemicals and side effects.
Find below the ratio of ingredients you can use to create light, dark and medium shade powders.
Ingredients For Light Shade
- 2 Teaspoons of arrowroot powder or cornstarch powder
- 1/4 Teaspoon of coco powder (you can also use coffee powder)
- 1/6 Teaspoon of cinnamon powder
- A few drops of essential oil
Ingredients For Medium Shade
- 3 Teaspoons of arrowroot powder or cornstarch powder
- 1.5 Teaspoons of coco powder
- 1/4 Teaspoon of cinnamon powder
- A few drops of essential oil
Ingredients For Dark Shade
- 2 Teaspoons of arrowroot powder or cornstarch powder
- 2.5 Teaspoons of coco powder
- 1/4 Teaspoon of cinnamon powder
- A few drops of essential oil
The idea is to play around the ratio of the ingredients to get the shade that goes well with your skin tone.
