In bygone days, kajal was applied predominantly to protect the eyes from the sun and the harsh outside elements. Tribal people used to draw distinct marks on their bodies with kajal as a projection of aggression to scare enemies.
In infants, small dot of kajal is applied below the ears to shield the baby from any evil energy. And the most interesting, not to mention, shocking fact that we found out is the chemical composition that counter-bought cosmetic kajals contain!
Kohl, for that matter, even eyeliners and mascaras are highly concentrated with mercury, parabens, propylene glycol and lead. Prolonged exposure to these chemicals can cause skin irritation and can even cause blindness.
Blindness is least of your worries. Some of these toxic chemicals also get absorbed into the body, which triggers cellular level changes in the nervous system and also increases the risk of breast cancer.
To think we were actually applying these toxic chemicals on infants is rather disturbing.
So, we got down to research to find out how kohl was made in the ancient days that were free of chemicals. Here is a step-by-step method to make pure kohl at home that is definitely safe for your baby, take a look.
