Papaya Hair Mask Recipes For Longer & Stronger Hair

But, before we further explore homemade papaya masks, you need to know in precise detail what exactly can papaya do for your crowning glory.

The lusciously juicy papaya contains an enzyme called "papain", which breaks down the inactive proteins on scalp and improves hair overall texture, quality and shine.

Furthermore, it is a powerhouse of vitamins C, A, B, flavonoids and beta-carotene, which cleanse your scalp of dead skin cells, improve elasticity of the hair, making it more silky, reduce breakage and promote regeneration of new hair follicles.

With so many benefits in store, it pays to give the much-acclaimed hair-strengthening papaya hair masks a definite try.

So, here's how to use papaya on hair with these homemade papaya hair masks.

Papaya + Yogurt


This mask relieves scalp of itchiness, while making the hair smooth and silky.

Take half a cup of mashed papaya and mix it with 2 teaspoons of yogurt. Mix it until you get a smooth paste. Apply the mask through your hair length and scalp. Cover your hair with a hot towel. Let it sit for an hour and then rinse it off with a mild shampoo.

Papaya + Coconut Milk + Honey

This papaya mask strengthens the roots and prevents hair fall. Take 2 tablespoons of mashed papaya, mix it with 1 tablespoon of coconut milk and 1 tablespoon of honey. Mix it until you get a smooth mask. Apply the mask on slightly damp hair. Let it sit for an hour. Later, shampoo and condition as usual.

Papaya + Jojoba Oil + Honey

To add volume, softness and shine back to your hair, try this simple papaya mask.

Add 3 tablespoons of mashed papaya, with 1 tablespoon of jojoba oil and a tablespoon of honey in a bowl. Using a fork, mix it well. Dividing your hair into small sections, and apply the mask to slightly wet hair. Let the mask sit for 45 minutes. Then, cleanse the mask away with a mild cleansing shampoo.

Papaya + Banana + Honey


Ideal for dry and brittle hair, mash 7 pieces of papaya with 1 ripe banana, in a blender. Add a tablespoon of honey to the mask and mix it well. Slightly dampen your hair and apply the mask. Let it sit for an hour and then cleanse as usual.

Papaya + Lemon + Honey


To keep nasty flaky dandruff at bay, apply this mask at least once a week. Take 3 tablespoons of mashed papaya. Add in a teaspoon of lemon juice and an equal amount of honey. Beat it until you get a smooth mask. Spritz your hair with some water and then apply the mask. Let it sit for an hour and later rinse it clean.
