Herbal Remedies To Treat Split Ends

The first possible sign that your hair is damaged is split ends. The faded, rough, fraying edges of your hair says it all!

At the first sign of dry ends, we automatically pick up the scissors to snip it off, which only serves to shorten the hair length. What you need instead are herbal remedies for split ends.

Before exploring hair masks for dry ends, let us first understand what causes the hair cuticles to split.

Medical term for split ends is trichoptilosis. And it happens due to extreme thermal, mechanical or chemical stress, which causes the protective layer of the hair cuticles to wear out.

What triggers the condition? Over-exposure to harsh UV rays, usage of chemical-based hair care products, using scalding hot water to wash hair or chocking hair follicles with harsh sprays can trigger this condition.

Your hair is made up of a thin fibre and it does not need much to cause the hair strands to split and break. So, be gentle with it.

Coconut Oil
Packed with antioxidants, coconut oil restores the pH balance of the scalp, cleanses pores and seals cuticles.

Step 1:

Take a required amount of coconut oil. Heat it in mild flame. Let it cool down in room temperature.

Step 2:

Massage it on to your scalp. Let it sit overnight or at least 30 minutes, before rinsing your hair with a mild shampoo.

Natural humectant and vitamin C present in honey work to seal, nourish and repair the damaged ends of the hair.

Step 1:


Take two tablespoons of honey in a cup of warm water. Apply it on to your hair after shampooing.

Step 2:

Leave it in your hair as a natural conditioner for sometime, as it will nourish hair and smoothen rough ends, and rinse.

Ghee too has strong moisturising properties that can seal split ends for good.

Step 1:


Apply ghee diluted or raw at the ends of your hair.

Let it sit for an hour, and then rinse it off with a mild shampoo.
