Did You Know These 5 Ingredients Can Harm Your Hair?
Both men and women often try various ways to improve the texture of their hair. They also try various methods to make their hair more shinier, smoother and silkier.
However, not many people are aware that certain seemingly harmless hair and body care products are actually dangerous.
DEA, also known as diethanolamine, is just an example of a dangerous ingredient. This chemical is commonly used to create body washes, shampoos, soaps, facial cleansers and bubble baths.
If everything is dangerous, then what can you do to protect yourself? The answer is actually simple.
You cannot avoid all of the dangerous chemicals in the world, but you can certainly use preventive measures. Damage reduction methods can also be used to prevent issues such as dandruff, hair loss and hair thinning.
Are you wondering which are those ingredients that are harmful and the measures to prevent these?
Well, continue reading to know more about the harmful ingredients and the best ways to protect yourself and your hair from the harsh effects of various chemicals.
5 Harmful Ingredients To Watch Out For!
Chlorine: Small amounts of chlorine can be found in tap water. Larger amounts of chlorine, along with other harsh chemicals, can be found in swimming pools. The amount of chlorine found in tap water is relatively harmless.
If you go swimming often, then remember to wear a swimming cap at all times. After swimming, you should wash your hair with plain water and soap to remove the excess chlorine.
Fragrances: Both skin and hair care products contain harmful chemicals such as synthetic fragrances. These ingredients are known to be carcinogenic. Stopping the usage of these products is a good way to prevent the damage.
If you choose to continue using these products, then consider applying an aloe vera hair mask once a week.
Mix equal quantities of aloe vera and olive oil, apply it on your hair and wash with a natural ingredient-based shampoo in 30 minutes.
Sodium Laureth Sulphate: Sodium laureth sulphate is a foaming agent used in many types of hair care products. This product is commonly used because of its inexpensive price.
It is always advisable to stay clear of the products with this ingredient. However, if you cannot, then applying egg white to your hair strands can reverse the temporary effects of this chemical.
Mineral Oil: May be you are in a rush and you'd decided to nourish your hair with baby oil. A little known fact is that baby oil consists of mineral oil. Mineral oil can lead to hair loss, dandruff and can prevent your scalp from breathing.
Almond oil, coconut oil and jojoba oil make excellent alternatives. You can also choose from other naturally occupying oils to nourish your hair.
Ammonia: Ammonia-based hair colours and dyes can be toxic for your hair. Ammonia can damage your hair in many different ways. It can cause hair loss, greying of your hair and even hair thinning.
Replacing ammonia-based products for natural hair dyes is a good alternative. Naturally occurring Mehendi can be used to get a rich brownish-red shade. Lemon can be used to gently lighten the colour of your hair. Beetroot water can be used to get a reddish auburn shade.
