It is this antioxidant that forms a protective layer on hair against damaging free radicals.

Amla is a powerhouse of vitamin C and amino acid, which renew the pigmentation in hair, making grey hair turn dark.

Vitamin C is also known to boost blood circulation, regenerate new hair follicles, remove dandruff and make hair soft.

Other than that, amla also contains a good ratio of emblicanin, gallic acid and ellagic acid, all of which can infuse a new life into your tired brittle hair.

Shine Fixer

This mask gives volume and shine to dull hair.

Take a tablespoon of amla powder, mix it with a teaspoon of lemon juice. Whip it into a smooth paste. Massage it on to the wet hair. Let it sit for 30 minutes and then rinse it with a clarifying shampoo.


Rinse For Hair Fall

This amla rinse for hair fall strengthens the hair from root, reducing breakage.

Take ½ a cup of amla powder, dilute it in a cup of water. Add a tablespoon of honey and let it sit for an hour. Give your hair a last rinse after shampoo with this solution. Let it sit for 5 minutes and then rinse.


Anti-dandruff Mask

This homemade amla hair mask controls oil production, breaks down sebum build up, which in turn controls dandruff.

Take a tablespoon of amla powder, mix in 10 drops of tea tree oil, 10 drops of coconut oil and a teaspoon of lime juice. Whisk it into a smooth paste. Wet your hair and using a brush, apply it to your hair section wise. Massage hair for 5 minutes. Let the mask sit for 30 minutes and then rinse with cold water.


Hair Oil For Rejuvenation

This hair oil reduces hair fall, and makes it soft and shiny.

Cut fresh amla into thin slices. Lay it out under the sun to dry for 2 to 4 days. Heat 1 cup of coconut oil in medium flame. Add the dried amla to the oil. Let it simmer for sometime, until the liquid turns dark brown or black in colour. Let it cool in room temperature. Massage it on to your scalp. After 2 hours, shampoo and condition.


Hair Mask

This mask will show a visible reduction in hair fall, in the first three trials itself.

Take a tablespoon of shikakai powder, mix it with an equal quantity of amla powder. Using water, make a thick paste. Divide your hair in small sections and liberally apply the mask to the hair length and scalp. Let it sit for 30 minutes and then rinse. This is one of the quickest ways to use amla for stronger hair.


Paste For Darker Hair

Take a mixing bowl, add 1 tablespoon of henna powder with the required amount of amla juice to make a thin paste. Apply it thoroughly to the length of your hair and scalp. Wrap your hair in a loose bun and cover it with a shower cap. After 40 minutes, shampoo and condition as usual.

This homemade amla hair mask will reduce grey hair within a month of usage.


Hair-rejuvenating Tonic

Heat 2 tablespoons of almond oil with equal amount of amla juice in a low heat. After 5 minutes of simmering, turn off the heat. Allow the tonic to cool in room temperature. Using a cotton ball, apply it generously to your hair and scalp. After 2 hours of application, rinse it clean with a mild shampoo.

This Ayurvedic remedy for strong hair with amla will add strength, shine and volume to your hair.


Strengthening Shampoo

Boil two tablespoons of amla juice with a tablespoon of reetha powder. Let it hibernate overnight. In the morning, shampoo your hair with this. After 5 minutes of massaging, when it starts to froth, rinse it with plain water.


Hair Growth Oil

Take a pan and boil 1 cup of amla oil. Add in a handful of crushed hibiscus leaves and a bunch of curry leaves. Let it simmer for 15 minutes. Let the oil hibernate for 48 hours. Strain the oil and use it.

This amla hair oil will improve hair elasticity, making it less prone to breakage, plus boost growth.



Yet another simple way to use amla for strong hair is this effective tip. Sprinkle a tablespoon of finely powdered amla powder to your regular shampoo for added rejuvenation.


Rash Mask

This mask has lactic acid, probiotics and antioxidants that reduce inflammation and prevent it from recurring again.

Mix a tablespoon of amla with an equal amount of yogurt and essential oils of your choice. Apply the mask to your hair. Let it sit for 30 minutes and then shampoo and condition as usual.



If you want to see all the so-called benefits of amla fast, then consumption is a better option than topical application. First thing in the morning, have a steamed amla, and drink ample amount of water. Do this every day for a month to see a drastic reduction in hair fall.
