Our recent obsession is basil, aka queen of all herbs - tulsi. And, if you have hair that is persistent on falling off, then we suggest you give this article a good read.
Tulsi does not just stop hair fall, but repairs it, one layer at a time. Here is how. It packs a powerful punch of vitamins A, C, E and K, which together form a powerful antioxidant, repairing damaged hair follicles, strengthening hair strands from roots and reducing hair fall.
Holy basil leaves contain approximately 3.15 mg of proteins, 6% niacin and 40% iron, which stimulate blood flow to the scalp, increasing oxygen supply that in turn allows the scalp to absorb the nutrient better, resulting in 2 times faster hair growth.
Added to that, it has antibacterial and antifungal properties that cleanse the scalp of the impurities, removing flaky dandruff, restoring its pH balance and also killing the infection-causing bacteria.
Other than that, healthy minerals and carotene present in basil strengthen the hair shafts, seal cuticles and prevent them from further breakage.
To boil it all down, whether you are suffering from thinning hair, unhealthy scalp or dreaded grey hair, basil can take care of it all.
So, without further ado, here is an Ayurvedic basil hair mask to restore life back into your mane! Have a look.
Take a handful of tulsi leaves, cleanse them well with water to remove any dust. Put them out under direct sunlight to dry the leaves. Once dry, grind them into a fine powder.
Take 1 tablespoon of amla powder, with 1 teaspoon of freshly ground tulsi powder. Using half a cup of water, whip the ingredients together into a smooth paste. Allow it to soak overnight.
In the morning, take the paste, keep whipping it with a fork, until it softens. Add a teaspoon of olive oil, 5 drops of rosemary oil and 5 drops of almond oil to the mask. Keep stirring it until all the ingredients blend well into a smooth paste.
Comb your hair with a wide-toothed comb to remove all knots and tangles. To reduce breakage, take small sections of your hair, hold it from mid-length and then, gently run the comb through.
Slightly dampen your hair for easy application of the mask. Divide your hair in small sections and then, apply the herbal basil hair mask through your hair length and scalp.
Massage your scalp for 5 minutes to stimulate blood flow. Tie your hair in a loose bun and cover it with a shower cap.
Let your scalp absorb the nutritional properties of the mask for an hour and then cleanse with a mild shampoo, follow it up with a suitable conditioner. Apply this basil mask for hair growth at least twice a month.
