Can Mouthwash Treat Dandruff?
Looking for a quick and easy solution for dandruff? We suggest you try mouthwash to control dandruff and its related hair problems.
When we come across an off-beat beauty hack, we treat it with a mix of apprehensiveness and a lot of excitement. The beauty trick we are gushing over this time is using mouthwash to control dandruff.
Yeah, we were as surprised as you are! We got down to research, and here is what we found out.
Any typical mouthwash contains alcohol, which can breakdown yeast infection on the scalp and cleanse flaky dandruff.
However, before exploring tricks of using mouthwash on hair, there are a few points that you need to keep in mind.
If you have sensitive skin or broken skin on the scalp, avoid this remedy, as it can further aggravate the condition.
When buying a mouthwash, use a non-flavoured one, as its formulation can work better on treating dandruff.
It is advised to test the DIY mouthwash hair mask in a small area first, to avoid any possibility of side effects, as different people react differently to the formulation.
So, without further ado, here is how to use mouthwash to get rid of dandruff. Take a look.
Step 1:
Take half a cup of mouthwash, mix it with an equal quantity of baby oil or mouthwash. Transfer the solution into a spray bottle and shake well.
Step 2:
Cleanse your hair thoroughly with your regular shampoo. Apply a liberal amount of conditioner through your freshly cleansed hair. Make sure you apply conditioner only to the hair ends and not the scalp. Do not wash out the conditioner.
Step 3
Spritz the mouthwash solution through your scalp. Avoid contact with the hair ends, as it can dry out the hair, causing breakage.
Step 4:
Massage your scalp for 2 to 5 minutes in a circular motion for the solution to spread evenly through your scalp and breakdown the dead skin layer. Allow the mask to sit for another 5 minutes.
Step 5:
Using cold water, rinse thoroughly. And pat dry. If you have mixed mouthwash with baby oil instead of water, chances are your scalp will turn slightly greasy. So, use a mild shampoo to wash out every last residue.
Step 6:
If the solution comes in contact with your eyes, rinse it out immediately. Alternatively, you can also try mixing a little amount of mouthwash to your regular shampoo. However, you need to be careful to tweak the amount as per your hair length and thickness, as excess mouthwash can dry out your hair.
Within one usage of this mouthwash solution, you will see a visible difference on your itchy, flaky and dry scalp.
