10 Homemade Remedies To Remove Skin Tags

Skin tags are a small growth on the skin, which often appears on the folds of the skin where moisture is present. This includes the armpit, neck, under the breast, on the eyelids, and near the genitals.

Skin tags do not cause any pain or discomfort, but if they are pulled off by certain ornaments and clothing, then a small blood clot may occur, which therefore causes pain.

It, however, may be tempting to cut it off, but this is not advisable, as it can be dangerous and may lead to several infections and permanent scarring.

There are various causes of skin tags. Some of it includes ageing, friction, genetics, and certain hormonal imbalances.

Skin tags can be removed by various methods like ligation, excision, cauterization and cryosurgery. Apart from the medical procedures, we do have a few homemade remedies for you.

But before you try the natural remedy, please note that the skin tags around the eyelids are very sensitive and this should be removed by a dermatologist.

Homemade remedies will take time and all we need is a little bit of patience.Now, let's take a look.Here are 10 homemade remedies just for you.


1. Apple Cider Vinegar:

Apple Cider Vinegar is one of the best homemade remedies for skin tags. Its high acid content breaks the excess cells in the skin tag and removes it eventually.

How To Use:

  • Wash and dry the area around the skin tag.
  • Dip a cotton ball in apple cider vinegar and apply it directly on the skin tag.
  • Leave it on for at least three to four hours.
  • Wash it off with warm water.
  • Repeat this procedure three to four times in a day, until the skin tag darkens and falls off.

Note: If you have sensitive skin, dilute the apple cider vinegar with water. Avoid using it to treat skin tags around the eyes.


2. Tea Tree Oil:

Tea tree oil is packed with powerful antiseptic properties and is effective at treating skin disorders, including acne, eczema, and skin tags.

How To Use:

  • Soak a cotton ball in tea tree oil and gently apply it to the skin tag.
  • Secure the cotton ball to the skin with a bandage.
  • Remove the bandage after 15-20 minutes.
  • For best results, do this three times in a day until the skin tag falls off.

Note: If any irritation occurs, mix the tea tree oil with coconut oil and apply it on the skin tag.


3. Vitamin E Oil:

Another great effective homemade treatment for skin tag is vitamin E oil. Its antioxidant properties help to regenerate the skin and make it smooth.

How To Use:

  • Break open a vitamin E capsule and extract the oil.
  • Apply the oil on the skin tag and cover the area with a bandage.
  • Leave the bandage overnight.
  • Remove the bandage the next morning.
  • Reapply the vitamin E oil again and apply a new bandage.
  • For best results, follow this procedure daily for several weeks until the tag falls off.

4. Garlic:

Garlic is packed with antibacterial, antifungal, and anti-inflammatory properties and is used since generations to remove warts and skin tags.

How To Use:

  • Take one clove of garlic and crush it.
  • Soak a cotton ball in its juice and apply it on the skin tag.
  • Cover it with a bandage and leave it overnight.
  • Wash it off with warm water in the morning.
  • For best results, repeat this process every day till the skin tag falls off.

5. Oregano Oil:

Oregano oil has powerful antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties that quickly take care of skin tags.

How To Use:

  • Add 2 to 3 drops of oregano oil with 4-5 drops of coconut oil.
  • Apply this mixture gently on the skin tag three times in a day.
  • Let the oil dry off and then cover it with a bandage and leave it overnight.
  • Repeat this process daily until the skin tag falls off.

6. Dandelion Stem Juice:

Dandelions are rich in vitamins and minerals, which aid in removing excess skin tissues and help in removing skin tags.

How To Use:

  • Extract the juice from the dandelion stem by squeezing it.
  • You will get a milky liquid.
  • Apply the milky liquid directly on the skin tag.
  • Cover the area with a bandage and leave it overnight.
  • Wash off with warm water in the morning.
  • Repeat this process daily up to four times a day till the skin tag falls off.

Note: If you are allergic to daisies, marigolds, chrysanthemums, etc., chances are you might also be allergic to dandelions. Avoid this remedy if you are allergic to any of the mentioned plants.


7. Lemon Juice:

Lemon juice contains citric acid which helps in decomposing the cells and removes skin tags. It also has powerful antiseptic properties.

How To Use:

  • Squeeze half a lemon and extract the juice.
  • Dip a cotton ball and apply it directly on the skin tag.
  • Leave it on till the juice dries off.
  • Repeat this process 2-3 times in a day till the skin tag falls off.

8. Coconut Oil:

Coconut oil contains lauric acid, an anti-microbial which wards off bacteria, viruses, and fungi by killing their cellular walls.

How To Use:

Apply coconut oil on the affected area every night before bed.

Repeat this process daily till the skin tag falls off.


9. Aloe Vera:

Aloe vera has amazing healing properties. It also contains anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties that help in removing skin tags.

How To Use:

  • Extract the juice from an aloe vera plant.
  • Apply it gently on the area and massage it for a few seconds.
  • Make sure that the gel is completely absorbed into the skin.
  • Repeat this process for at least three times daily for two weeks.

10. Fenugreek Seeds:

Fenugreek seeds contain powerful antioxidants that help remove warts and skin tags.

How To Use:

  • Soak 1-2 tablespoons of fenugreek seeds in a bowl of warm water overnight.
  • Strain the seeds and collect the water in another bowl.
  • Drink this water on an empty stomach.
  • You can also apply the water on the affected area.
  • Repeat this process daily for a week.
