Aloe Vera – An Absolute Beauty Staple; Its Benefits On Skin & Hair!
Check out for some of the best beauty benefits of aloe vera for your skin and hair.
Aloe vera is a plant belonging to the succulent family. It has long fleshy leaves and it is actually the flesh of the leaves that has many uses for the skin and hair. It is a clear gel-like substance. It is almost tasteless and odourless. To know more about the benefits of aloe vera, continue reading.
The gel has a sticky texture, but it is not difficult to handle. It is used in many cosmetic products as well as skincare and haircare formulas. You can use this amazing plant at home as well. It can be applied using simple recipes that give just as good results as the store-bought products.
It has a unique moisturising quality. It moisturises the skin, without making it oily and balances the pH level of the skin and scalp. It has benefits, especially for the skin and hair, which are elaborated upon below.
It is very easy to grow this in the home garden. If you do not happen to be a gardening enthusiast, you can buy it at your local grocery store. It is inexpensive and is easily available.
Benefits Of Aloe Vera For The Skin & Hair
1. Hydrates The Skin
Aloe vera provides essential hydration and nourishment to the skin. It has vitamin C, which is beneficial for the skin. It gives the skin a boost of antioxidants, which prevent cell damage by free radicals. It enriches the skin with vitamins C and E - the key ingredients of all skin care products.
2. Regenerative Property
Aloe vera helps the skin produce new skin cells at a faster rate. Thus, making the skin look youthful and healthy. This property also helps in healing broken and flaky skin. It reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles as well.
3. Removes Hyperpigmentation
Hyperpigmentation is caused by excessive production of the pigment called melanin, which gives colour to our skin. This excessive production can be localized or generalized. Localized hyperpigmentation results in dark spots and generalized hyperpigmentation gives a mask-like effect.
Aloe vera reverses the skin to its natural colour by encouraging new cell growth. It also has mild bleaching properties that gradually lighten the skin tone. It does not curb the melanin production though, as that depends mainly on internal factors like hormones.
4. Treats Acne
Aloe vera is useful in treating acne. It has antiseptic properties that prevent acne scars. It also minimizes the occurrence of acne by controlling the secretion of sebum and balancing the pH level of the skin. Auxins and gibberellins present in aloe vera heal inflamed skin and aid the skin renewal process.
5. Pore Minimising Effect
Aloe vera has astringent quality. It tightens the pores and reduces their visibility. It can even be used as a primer prior to applying makeup. The astringent quality gives the base a smooth finish. Since it is moisturizing as well, you do not have to worry about it drying your skin, like the alcohol-based toners.
6. Treats Sun Damage
The regenerative properties of aloe vera ensure fast healing of the burnt skin. The plant hormones called auxin and gibberellins help in the quicker formation of new cells and thereby reduce inflammation. Beta-carotene present in the plant also helps in healing the sun burns.
7. Dandruff
Aloe vera has antifungal properties. It kills the dandruff-causing fungi. It heals broken scalp. It maintains the pH balance and prevents greasiness.
8. Anti-Frizz
The hydrating function of aloe vera gel works on hair as well. It gives a smooth and glossy finish to the hair. Applying the gel on damp hair detangles it and keeps it frizz free for a long duration of time.
