Turmeric is packed with antiseptic and antibacterial properties, which can work magic for skin troubled with acne, pigmentation or nasty scars. Next time you see a zit popping up unannounced, simply dab on the fine paste of turmeric and watch the zit vanish overnight.

This phenomenal but slightly underrated spice from the Indian kitchen does not restrict its healing touch just to that. It is also known to lighten stretch marks, reduce facial hair, control flaky dandruff and more. It can also come in handy when treating depression or boosting digestion among other issues.

Here are a list of seven commonly occurring beauty problems and ways in which you can treat them with turmeric:

Goodbye Oily Skin

Turmeric is known to control the production of sebum, an oily substance produced from the sebaceous glands in the skin. This makes turmeric an ideal choice for treating oily skin. A fine paste made of sandalwood and turmeric applied twice a week will keep the excess oil in check, for good.

Say No To Wrinkles

Prepare a face pack made of turmeric, rice powder, raw milk and tomato. Apply it liberally across your face and leave it on for 30 minutes before washing it clean with lukewarm water. Turmeric is rich in antioxidants and hence promotes new cell growth. This in turn brightens the skin while keeping its elasticity intact.

Soothes Burns

A mixture of aloe vera gel and turmeric can work wonders for burnt skin. Next time you get a burn, simply apply the paste on the affected area and watch its rich antiseptic properties heal the wound in no time. You can also store the gel in an air tight container in a cool damp place and use it as and when required.

Lightens Pigmentation Marks

To even out your skin tone and remove sun tan, apply a soothing pack of turmeric and cucumber juice. Apply the pack for 10 to 15 minutes before washing it off with plain water. To further heal the skin, rub ice cubes; it will shrink the open pores and keep your skin fresh.

Scrapes off Dead Skin

There is a reason why 'haldi' is used so generously by Indian brides. It brightens the skin and brings a glow on the bride's face. A body scrub made of gram flour and turmeric when used every week can remove dead skin and tan, boost blood circulation and give a flawless glowing skin.

Reduces Facial Hair

This will probably solve one of the most common problems faced by a majority of Indian girls - facial hair. Mix one tablespoon of honey with one teaspoon of turmeric and apply it to your face. Leave it on until dry before washing it off with lukewarm water. Repeated application over time will show noticeably reduced facial hair.

Heals Cracked Heels

Say goodbye to cracked heels, once and for all, with this amazingly quick and yet simple tip. Apply a mixture of castor oil with turmeric everyday, 15 minutes before taking bath and watch that inflamed cracked heel close up and smoothen in a week. You can also switch castor oil with coconut or lavender oil.
