Thirukkural-On Virtue-Elimination Of Desire-Kural 363

Thirukkural, Greatest Wealth
Vaendaamai anna viluchchselvam eendillai
Yaandum akthopadhu il.

There is no wealth better than desirelessness in this world;
Nor is there anything like it beyond too.

Absence of desire is the best wealth in this world as well as the next.

This is probably what Plutarch meant, when he said, 'of human virtues', that which needs the least, is most absolute and divine".

An amended version of 'Aandum' is 'Yaandum' which would mean 'anywhere else".

In this context, it may be noted that overcoming all desire, love or hatred, pervades the whole of the Gita as its central theme, and as the basic virtue on which all else depends in structuring one"s path of bhagavad gita,desires,righteousness,upanishads leading to ultimate release and to the Lord Himself.
