Thirukkural-On Virtue-Avoidance Of Killing-Kural 322

Thirukkural, Kural 322
Pahuthundu palluyir omputhal nooloar Tokuthavatrul elaan thalai.

To share your food with and cherish all that lives, Is the best of precepts in the Books of the world.

The best of precepts found in all Religious Books or Ethical Codes is to share your food with and Cherish all living creatures.

Manakudavar would say that this teaching is common to all religions and sects. One of the Ten Commandments of the bible is, for instance, 'Thou shalt not kill" though the interpretation thereof, involving only the prohibition of manslaughter, is not as wide as intended in these Kurals of Thiruvalluvar.

The Jains, of course made it a cardinal principle of their religious thinking and practice.
