Satsang With Swami Chinmayananda-'About Man's Life'

Chinmayananda, Man's Life
In one of your lectures, you mentioned that Narayana in the form of thought, strikes Einstein's mind, and the Theory of Relativity is the result. My questions are : Why did Narayana select Einstein for this purpose? Is there any particular time for these kinds of ideas or inventions to crop up in the mind? How is a particular moment selected by Narayana to create new ideas? Is this process related to the process of Evolution of Mankind?

Narayana is ever present, just as electricity is ever present. Yet the radio does not play music until it is switched on, and even when it is switched on, the electric current in the radio produces only that music which is played by the station to which the set is tuned. Einstein was tuned to relativity. Newton to gravity. Sir C. V. Raman to the Raman rays and Sankara to Satchidananda.

Are women and sudras really prohibited from chanting Gayatri Mantra?

Thousands upon thousands of ladies and sudras are chanting Gayatri under Arya Samaj. When the Shastras declare so, the declaration is true, but our understanding is wrong. Japa is undertaken by the mind and not by the body, and therefore the woman there means not the physical one but it is the effeminate mind (full of attachments, fears, passions, and lust).

Sudra also means those who are tamasic in their mind. To such people the Gayatri japa would be ineffective and a waste of time as they will not be able to gain the full benefit of the japa. You go through the book 'Meditation and Life', completely study it and if you still have the same doubts or similar doubts, please come back to me in letter.

What is life?

Life is a series of experiences. Life is the capacity to react with the world outside. When we react with the world outside, we gain an experience. Life is therefore, a series of experiences.

What is man's life?

A man's life is his total experiences. The entire experiences of a man in the world is the sum total of all his experiences in the three levels of his personality - his body, mind and intellect.

What is man?

The spirit covered by the body, mind and intellect is man. Man is his thoughts. As the thoughts are, so, is the man. If the thoughts are good he is called a good man. If the thoughts are bad he is called a bad man.

As the thoughts, so his action. And as the actions so is the man.
