A Paramahamsa's Nature

By Staff

Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, Consciousness
Conscious living is the nature of a Paramahamsa says Ramakrishna Paramahamsa. The master, to illustrate the view draws inference from the behavioural attitude of His five year old nephew.

Sri Ramakrishna's nephew, Shivaram was four or five years when He was staying in Kamarpukur. The child was immersed in consciousness that its ever flowing awareness grasped even the subtlest happening. Once Shivaram was in pursuit of grasshoppers near the pond. As the child ventured with soft padded steps to catch the grasshopper, he hushes the rustling wind, lest it may drive the insect away.

On another occasion, when the sky was sending sharp showers of rain amidst thunder and lightening, the child now and then despite Sri Ramakrishna's chiding, peeped out to take a glimpse of the rains. When ever there was a lightening, the child exclaimed to Sri Ramakrishna, "They are striking matches again, Uncle!"

Sri Ramakrishna then said that the nature of a Paramahamsa was like that of a five year old plunged ever in consciousness.
