The Eternal Escort

Sadhu Om Swami sang of his master Ramana Maharshi's grace, that cared for a devotee's welfare even more than the devotee can care for his own self.

Numerous are the accounts of devotees who experienced the protective power of the Master. The potential power unleashes when the sense of surrender happens in a devotee.

An incident in the life of a devotee exposes the care that the master meticulously exercises over the devotees in every aspect of one's day to day life.

A protective father guarded his daughter with an eagle eye. He was always at her side to guide her in every step of her life. She was his most precious pearl in life. He escorted her even to the near by shop to keep her off any unforeseen danger. The daughter thus grew up in the warmth of the love of her father. The father was a devout devotee of Bhagavan Ramana who formed the core of his life.

It was then time for the daughter to leave home to pursue with her further studies. The little bird flew out into the open from the nest that nestled her with great love and care.

It so happened that once on her way back from visiting her home to the place where she studied, a pack of street dogs surrounded her as she made her way through the street to her hostel,in the wee hours of the morning. As the dogs barked fiercely, the frightened girl, reached her phone and called her father in utter desperation. She stammered in fear the awaiting danger. Her father at once instructed her to repeat 'Ramana, Ramana, Ramana, Ramana....."

The result is foreseen, as in the case of every devotee who turned to the master at trying times. The dogs dispersed into the departing darkness and the girl reached her hostel safely. The most surprising thing was that one of her attackers escorted all his way until she safely entered her hostel premises.

The girl hurriedly called her father to relieve him of his anxiety.

Her father advised, “Understand that this limited body you see as your father can only protect you for a limited time, in a limited space. It is only Ramana who can protect and care for you at all times and at all places"

Should this be called a miracle? One could claim a miracle to be a sudden and unusual solution. But is Ramana the one who makes a sudden appearance? Is He not the ever present, available support who has swallowed space and time?

What can be spoken about the grace of Bhagavan who nurtures every weary soul that sought His refuge?, the eternal escort whose grace so eloquently expressed in silence.
