Diwali 2022: Steps To Perform Lakshmi Ganesha Puja At Home
Here is how to perform Lakshmi Ganesha Puja at home on Diwali.
Diwali is approaching and the preparations are in full swing. Among all the events and celebrations of the day, the most important part is the Lakshmi-Ganesha puja, which is performed on the day of Diwali. This ritual is performed to welcome Lakshmi and Ganesha in the house so that they bless everyone with intelligence, wealth and prosperity.
It is said that on Diwali, Goddess Lakshmi enters every house and blesses everyone in the family, with wealth and prosperity. For this reason, the entire house is well cleaned before Diwali and then decorated with lighted lamps to welcome the Goddess.
So, if you are planning to perform Lakshmi-Ganesha puja at home on this Diwali, let us help you out with the preparations. Take a look at what you need for the puja and how to perform the ritual. Here are the steps to perform Lakshmi Ganesha puja at home on Diwali.
This year Diwali is being observed on 14 November 2020. Lakshmi Puja muhurat starts from 05:28 pm to 07:24 pm. Pradosh Kaal starts from 05:28 pm to 08:07 pm. Vrishabha Kaal starts from 05:28 pm and ends at 07:24 pm. Amavasya Tithi begins at 02:17 pm on 14 November 2020 and ends at 10:36 am on 15 November.
Items You Need For The Puja
These are the items you need to keep ready to perform Lakshmi-Ganesha puja:
- Kalash
- Mango leaves
- Idol of Lakshmi-Ganesha
- Milk
- Curd
- Honey
- Ghee
- Puffed rice
- Sweets
- Coriander seeds
- Cumin seeds
- Betel nut
- Betel leaf
- Regular puja items like diya, incense sticks, vermillion, flowers, turmeric, rice, etc.
Clean The House
First, clean the house properly because Goddess Lakshmi resides only where there is cleanliness. Then purify the house by sprinkling Gangajal. We can find Gangajal in the form of packaged bottles, easily available in the market.
Decide On The Place For The Puja
Secondly, decide on the place where you want to perform the puja. Install a raised platform and cover it with a red cloth. Now prepare the kalash which is to be placed on the platform. Fill the kalash with clean water. Drop a betel nut into it. Place five mango leaves, covering the mouth of the Kalash. Then put a betel leaf, flowers, coins and rice on it. Place a small thali or plate over the kalash and draw a lotus with turmeric powder on it. Place a small idol of Lakshmi in the centre. Place the idol of Ganesha on the right side of the kalash.
Apply Tilak On The Idols
Start the puja by putting turmeric (haldi) and vermilion (kumkum) tilak, on the forehead of the idol of Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha. Then light the lamp. Place the books or the documents related to your business beside the idols.
Chant The Mantra
Next, place haldi, kumkum, coriander seeds, cumin seeds, puffed rice and rice on a plate. Apply haldi, kumkum and rice (tilak with akshat) on the kalash. Then offer flowers to both the deities. After this, take some flowers and rice in both your hands joined together and recite the following mantras:
Vakratunda
Mahakaya
Suryakoti
Samaprabha
Nirvighnam
Kurume
Deva
Sarvakaryeshu
Sarvada
Namostestu
Maha
Maye,
Shree
padee,
sura
poojite,
Shanka,
Chakra,
Gada
hasthe,
Maha
Lakshmi
Namostute
Bathe The Idols
After reciting the mantra, meditate for some time and then sprinkle the flowers/flower petals and rice on the idols of Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha. Then take the idol of Goddess Lakshmi and place it on a clean thali or plate. Clean the idol with water. Prepare a mixture of honey, curd, milk and ghee. Bathe the idol with this mixture. Clean the idol with water again. Wipe it with a clean cloth and then place it back on the kalash. Repeat the procedure with the idol of Ganesha.
Distribute The Prasad
Now place a garland on the idol of both Lakshmi and Ganesha. Apply haldi and kumkum as tilak on the idols. Offer sweets and then perform the 'aarti' with the lighted lamp. Chant the aarti. After the completion of the aarti, partake the sweets offered to the Goddess and Lord as 'prasad', and distribute among the family members.
