Milad-Un-Nabi: Birthday of Prophet Muhammad

Milad Un Nabi: Birthday of Prophet Muhammad

Milad-Un-Nabi is one of the important festivals of Eid according to the Muslim tradition. Also generally called Eid-Ul-Milad or simply Milad Nabi, this day holds a special significance for the Muslims as it happens to be Prophet Muhammad's birth as well as death anniversary. Prophet's Birthday 2020 in India will begin in the evening of Thursday, 29 October and ends in the evening of Friday, 30 October.

The occasion falls in the month Rabi' al-awwal of the Islamic calendar. However, there seems to be a difference in its observances between the Shias and the Sunnis. The Shias observe it on the 17th of the month, while Sunnis observe it on the 12th of the month

Prophet Muhammad is held in high esteem and reverence by the Muslims, as he is regarded as the Chief of the Prophets to whom the Holy Koran was revealed.

Milad-Un-Nabi Celebrations

Though Milad Nabi forms one of the significant days for the followers of Islam, the celebrations associated with it are however constrained to an extent. Unlike other festivals of Eid, the celebrations are limited owing to the fact that it also happens to be the death anniversary of the Prophet.

The life of The Prophet is discussed and delivered in the form of speeches by religious heads in Mosques. The Prophet's life and unmatched qualities of goodness are narrated in depth and detail. The mosques are decorated for the occasion.

Muslims make charity on the occasion, with the affluent being more generous. Feasting also forms an integral part of this occasion. Guests are invited to partake of the feast. Food is also distributed to the poor.

Though The Prophet is lives in the hearts of the Muslims always, Milad-Un-Nabi, however, is an occasion celebrated in his remembrance.
