The Lord's Name In Every Pore

By Staff

Tukaram, Short Story
Tukaram was a great poet saint and a great devotee. He spent the day time immersed in Samadhi and engaged in singing and dancing in the night amidst large gatherings. The name of Lord Rama was always on his lips.

One day while Tukaram was answering the call of nature, as customary of him, he uttered the name of Rama repeatedly. An orthodox priest shocked at the uttering of the Lord's name when he was unclean reprimanded Tukaram and ordered him stop chanting the Lord's name. Tukaram readily succumbed to the priest's words and stopped uttering the name of Rama. Immediately from every pore of Tukaram the name of Rama resounded horrifying the priest.

The priest then prayed for Tukaram's forgiveness and claimed that such austerities were not meant for great saints like him and are only to be adopted by the common folks.
