The Power Of The Lord's Name

By Staff

Short Story, Holy Name
The Lord's name uttered faithfully even once redeems one from the clutches of sin.

A king on committing a heinous sin of killing a Brahmana, resorted to seek the guidance of a rishi. On reaching the hermitage, he found that the rishi was not available and hence put forward the purpose of his visit to his son. The rishi's son on hearing the sin of the king, asked him to repeat the name of Lord Rama thrice which will expiate any sin without a trace of it.

The rishi returned back and was informed about the penance prescribed by his son. The rishi flew into a rage and said that the Lord's name uttered even once is enough to absolve any number of sins committed in countless births. He further blamed his son for his weak faith for having asked the king to utter the Lord's name thrice instead of just once. Saying so he cursed his son to be born an out caste. The son was reborn as Guhaka of the Ramayana.
