Make This Valentine's Day Special

By Ian Faria

Any day is a day for Love, but then, it's Valentine's Day today and so let's make it a day for a little extra LOVE.

While we do not need a special day to profess or express Love, it is always good to celebrate it with a little extra ‘josh' when Valentine's Day arrives. People who have been in a relationship tend to treat the occasion lightly, but those who want a little more love, expect more. After all, yeh dil mange more! Right?

NEED RELATIONSHIP ADVICE?

Valentine's Day is an opportune time to take your relationship to a new level. These tips could be used for anyone in a relationship: whether you just got into one, or whether you have been together for a reasonable length of time. Remember, a relationship that thrives is a solid base for a plethora of good things -- happiness, peace, and harmony but it is also an essential ingredient for a Healthy Life.

Make This Valentine's Day Special

Here are a few tips that can spruce up any relationship:

GIFTS

While many men are not particularly focused on gifts, if you really want to get a man a gift, get him something you know he would want, not something you want him to use. Men are particular about what they use and they normally like a gift that they would find useful. And if it has a brand attached, that is a bonus.

Women on the other hand seem to enjoy a gift. Specially one they least expect. For them it is the thought that went into selecting and procuring the gift. They want it to have all the finery attached to a gift. Proper gift wrapping with ribbon and a card that has a meaningful personal message that you write yourself.

QUALITY TIME

Women like to be honoured and respected. They love to be treated like princesses. They like things to be focused on them. Take them to a place they enjoy. Do the things they like and you will make their day memorable. The trick here is to savour the moments and pay TOTAL attention to what they say, what they have worn, the make-up they have indulged in.

Men are pretty much focused on romance, only if it gets quickly to the intimate phase. Given an opportunity they want more from an outing than just the outing.

WARM HUGS & KISSES

As a relationship progresses, remember that women normally lock themselves into a time warp. They love to think they are as young as they feel, which is ‘20 forever'. They love the softer parts of the togetherness -- holding hands, an arm round the waist, a bear hug, leaning a little closer.

Men are ok with this point, provided they can move quickly ahead.

MEMORIES & SWEET NOTHINGS

Women love to reminisce. They love to recount the good times and this could even transport them back in time. Remember to say the nice things she loves to hear. And whisper it in her ear for maximum effect.

Men too like to remember the good times, provided they do not need to spend too much time on it. They love their egos stroked. This validation makes them feel like the night in shining armour and the protector forever. And is good for their self esteem and confidence. What they also love is not being contradicted. Even if they have completely mixed up the facts.

RENEW COMMITMENT

While you are on that date to remember, it is important to use it to solidify your relationship. Remember why the two of you came together in the first place. Re-pledge your love for your partner. Renew your commitment to the essential ingredients of RESPECT and TRUST.

A relationship is not built on what we expect. It is built on Mutual Respect. A relationship without Trust is one that will surely rust.

On your date to remember, you may need to pay some minor attention to the finer points of romance. Cupid is activated by those deft touches of sensitivity and those "Aha!" moments.

Create That "Aha!" Date

Special dates are memorable ones. Both men and women appreciate a great overall experience. Here are some pointers that can create it for you.

Visual - the way you and the surroundings look surely can be a visual delight if you work on it. Don't forget the eye to eye contact with each other and letting the eyes chat a second longer.

Kinaesthetic - We have already talked about touch 'n feel. In addition you could savour the closeness. Let that accidental extra touch happen.

Olfactory - Odours have to be pleasant. Body odour is a big turn off for most people on the planet. There is so much of wisdom in a good clean shower backed up by talc and deo spray and even an aftershave (perfume).

Auditory - Say nice things and say them with genuineness. Use volume to effect. Soft and gentle adds zing to the moment. Use words that your partner normally appreciates and add one or two special ones for the occasion.

Gustatory - Taste and food are very important for the memorable experience. Don't forget to take the trouble to ask some of your foodie friends for ideas. Don't forget about the dessert, which could be one of the best parts of the experience.

As we go beyond today... lets remember that ANY DAY is an occasion for adding a little more love... and a getting a lot more of it in return. After all... it takes only one tiny seed... to eventually create the forest. Today could be that seed... that creates a thousand happy tomorrows!
