Reasons Your Toddler Is Not Growing Up
If your toddler is not growing up like all other kids of his/ her age group, you must be really worried. All parents are concerned about their toddler's growth and development. The time from 1 to 5 years is of rapid growth. And if your toddler is not growing up fast enough in this stage, there is definitely something to be worried about.
Never equate your toddler's growth with his/ her height or weight. Growth is not just about toddler's height. Brain development is also a part of growth. And if your toddler is not growing mentally, then too it is a cause for concern. Whatever be the cause, you have to find it out and adjust your toddler's diet and lifestyle accordingly.
Here are some probable reasons why your toddler is not growing up as he/ her should.
Fussy Eater
Is your toddler a fussy eater? Then he or she will be a slow bloomer. Fussy eating toddlers are very difficult to handle. You have to follow a 'clean up your plate' method with them. You may also consider giving them some nutrition supplements.
Less Proteins
Your toddler's diet should be as balanced as possible. However, never underestimate the importance of proteins for growing children. Your toddler need more of proteins than carbohydrates. Having oily and fatty foods will make your toddler grow fat. He or she will not grow taller or smarter.
Breastfeeding
It is not a good idea to breastfeed the toddler beyond his/ her second birthday. Supplement breast milk with other calcium and protein rich foods like yogurt and cheese.
Enough Exercise
Sometimes, toddlers become very lazy as they are addicted to video games. Your child needs to stretch his or her muscles by hoping, running and jumping. Make sure your child gets sufficient exercise for a healthy growth.
Lack Of Sleep
Toddlers also grow when they are sleeping. Rest is an important part of muscular growth. If your toddler is prone to nightmares and refuses to sleep at regular hours, then his/ her growth can suffer.
Frequent Illnesses
Does your toddler fall ill very frequently? This could be one of the reasons why your toddler is not growing up fast enough. When the child is ill, his or her energy goes in recovering from the illness. Little nutrition can be diverted to growth. Give your toddler immunity building foods so that his/ her growth doesn't suffer.
