Childhood Illnesses That Happen To Toddlers

Childhood illnesses happen to almost all kids, especially toddlers. These common illnesses happens to almost every child. Most of these diseases attack toddlers in between the age of 2 to 5 years. That is why, they are called common toddler diseases. If you have a baby, you should be prepared to deal with these childhood illnesses.

All you need to do is, learn about common childhood illnesses that your child may suffer from. Here is a list of some childhood illnesses that toddlers are prone to.

Toddler Illnesses

Chicken Pox

Chicken pox is viral infection that results in fever and pustules all over the body. This infection affects everyone at least once in their lifetime. However, it is better to have chicken pox as a kid as it improves your immunity. The disease will run its course in 21 days. You need to keep your toddler in isolation because the disease is very infectious and bathe the child with neem leaves. Don't allow them to scratch the pox boils or else it might leave permanent marks.

Measles

Measles is an illness in which the toddler gets a reddish rash and some of the glands become swollen. The child would also have mild fever and a running nose. Measles takes about 7 days to heal. During this time keep the child comfortable and in isolation.

Mumps

Mumps is a disease that affects the salivary glands. The toddler's throat swells up and he or she runs a fever. It takes about 7 to 10 days for mumps to heal during which the child might have difficulty eating or swallowing. Keep your toddler on liquid diet during this time.

Pink Eye

This a children's version of conjunctivitis that is very common among children. Your toddler might pick up this eye infection at school or from other kids. The eyes become red and starts watering. It takes about 3 to 5 days to heal.

Scarlet Fever

At one point of time Scarlet fever was a killer disease. But modern antibiotics have rendered it harmless. The child runs high fever, sore throat and coughing. There is also a reddish and coarse rash on the body accompanied by vomiting. With proper antibiotics the fever should be gone in 3 days time.
