A recent study says that eating potatoes in large quantities, that too, before getting pregnant may raise the risk of pregnancy diabetes. Well, another name for this kind of diabetes is gestational diabetes.
Researchers claim that when they compared women who seldom consumed potatoes before pregnancy with those who consumed them excessively, they found out that potatoes are raising the risk significantly.
This study further advises women to replace potatoes with legumes, other vegetables or even rice in order to minimise the risk of gestational diabetes.
When a woman undergoes gestational diabetes, the blood sugar levels may increase drastically and this may further cause certain other issues both for the baby and the mother.
After studying more than 15000 women who has no history of any kind of illness, researchers came to a conclusion that potatoes might cause the problem.
