While 'nausea and vomiting of pregnancy' (NVP) is considered to be an absolutely normal but distressing symptom, it is experienced by most women during their early stages of pregnancy when it is commonly known as “morning sickness”. However unfortunately for some, the unpleasant feeling of nausea can sustain beyond the first trimester of pregnancy through to the latter stages.

TAKE A LOOK: Prevent Stretch Marks When Pregnant

Let’s look into some of the following causes that can get you nauseous even during your third trimester of pregnancy.

Hormone Fluctuation
Hormone fluctuations are the most probable cause for nausea not only during the first trimester but also for nausea during the third trimester of pregnancy. It is not only the initial and mid stages of pregnancy when your body struggles to fight balance, in fact, your body still undergoes significant hormonal imbalance as your due date approaches following your third trimester.

Growing Baby Bump
Another common cause for nausea in third trimester of pregnancy is the effects of the growing size of your uterus. The expansion of uterus than ever before is due to the baby growing inside because by third trimester, the baby is almost big enough to leave the womb. The growing uterus causes the other abdominal organs such as bowel to get compressed thus, creating a pressure on your stomach.

This pressure on your stomach can force your stomach acids up to your lower esophagus thus, causing heartburn and nausea.

Eating Heavy Meals
The feeling of nausea during third trimester of pregnancy can also arise after eating, specifically because your stomach has very less space left to retain food that you intake. In order to avoid nausea in such a case, snack on nutritious food in smaller quantities throughout the day.

What To Do If Nausea Hits During Third Trimester of Pregnancy?
Nausea during third trimester is not as much common as it is during the initial stages however, it is not an entirely fearful condition as well. But, it is always best to get a checkup done by your gynaecologist if nausea persists or arises during third trimester.

So, if this happens with you, don’t forget to mention your doctor about nausea feelings during third trimester because he might want to test you for certain viruses if symptoms of nausea build up suddenly during third trimester of pregnancy.
