Is Fast Heartbeat During Pregnancy Normal?

Do you know what the normal heart rate is? It is anywhere between 60 and 100. Anything beyond this is considered to be fast heartbeat. When you get pregnant, your heartbeat normally increases beyond this bracket. You do not have a normal heart beat. There are various causes associated with this syndrome which occurs normally when you are pregnant.

A regular heart is made up of four chambers: two atria at the top and the two ventricles covering the bottom. The rhythm of the heart is basically controlled when the blood is pumped through the electrical impulses in these chambers. The heart rate increase, which is known as Tachycardia, is an issue of disruption or change in the cardiovascular system, which causes an increase in the heart beat rate.

When you are pregnant, you tend to face Tachycardia wherein the cardiovascular system is disrupted or the electrical signals bear a change. This change is due to an underlying sign, which in this case is pregnancy. The heart beat is just not in the normal range but it does not mean that the high rate would be the same for everyone. For each of you, who is pregnant, the high point might vary as per your body and the functions. Here are a few causes and symptoms for fast heartbeat during pregnancy.

Causes for Fast Heartbeat
When you grow pregnant, it is a medical condition and this might cause fast heart beat in you. The increase in heartbeat might begin when you conceive and might last till the time you go in labor. It may last through your delivery too in some cases. The presence of a growing fetus in your body is one of the main reasons for the increase in heart beat of your body. In such a case your heart needs to work harder in order to ensure that proper nutrition is available to the growing fetus as well as you. The blood needs to be supplied to the fetus as well in order to nourish it. In such cases, the pumping speed will increase; the electrical signals would increase thus increasing the heart beat rate. A fifth of the pre-pregnancy blood supply is routed to the uterus when you grow pregnant. There is a significant increase in the blood volume somewhere around 30 to 50 %. This will need the heart to pump the blood out faster. Somewhere around 10 to 20 beats per minute rise in heart beat is observed.

Symptoms for Fast Heartbeat
How would you know if you have a fast heart beat rate when you are pregnant? The first symptom of fast heart beat is when the pulse rate of your body increases. There are other symptoms too. One of them is shortness of breath. This is observed along with increase in pulse rate. You need to keep your eye open for both these symptoms. A little dizziness and light headedness accompanies your shortness in breath. Of course, these symptoms should be notified to the doctor to ensure it is due to your pregnancy.

Diagnosis for Fast Heartbeat
When you visit a doctor for fast heartbeat rate condition during pregnancy, the doctor would normally conduct a lot of tests to ensure that the condition is due to pregnancy and nothing else. EKG would be performed to understand the symptoms and the actual reason for the condition. Ideally the doctor would suggest good diet and healthy exercise to restrict unnecessary weight gain during pregnancy.
