Home Remedies For Allergy In Pregnancy
House dust, pollens in the garden, pollution, specific foods, nuts etc can cause allergies. When you are pregnant, you are already facing lots of changes both physical and mental. Apart from changes, body pain is common. But, allergies during pregnancy is just an addition to the existing condition. Allergies are no exception during pregnancy. It leads to nasal congestion, a very common allergy symptom during pregnancy due the increase in hormones and blood volume.
However, during pregnancy you should opt for home remedies to treat allergies. They are safe, natural and doesn't have any side effect. Medications with medicines can be harmful for the baby so, it is best to opt for home remedies. For example, drops of saline solution in the nose can help ease allergies during pregnancy.
There are few tips to remember if you are allergic during pregnancy. Remove carpets and rug mats as they are a home to dust mites. If you want to keep the carpet or rug mat, make sure they are clean, vacuumed and put under direct sunlight (for an hour) ever day. Change the bed sheet every week in hot water and clean the house every day. Use anti-bacterial herbal soap to avoid allergy during pregnancy. Keep the windows closed specially during seasonal changes. For example pollen can cause allergy so at this peak, you should close the windows and stay indoors. Even watch out on what you eat. Specific foods like eggplant and peanut butter can lead to allergy. Even milk in few women cause allergy. So, be careful and note on which food is causing you allergy. Home remedies for allergy during pregnancy:
Saline nasal spray
They are safe and most commonly used remedy for allergy in pregnant women.
Steam your face
Steam can kill the bacteria and provide relief from allergy among pregnant women. Breathing steam refreshes, cleans and soothes the irritated sinuses.
Rinse face
Wash your face with warm water at short intervals. It provides relief and also give a soothing effect.
Hot cloth
Soak a clean cloth like handkerchief in hot water and squeeze it. Press on the sinuses (sides of your nose, below the eyes, and above eyebrows).
Peppermint tea
It is a herbal tea that soothes the allergy and also relieves nasal congestion.
Close windows
Airborne bacteria and germs can trigger to allergies. So if you get allergic due to the air outdoors, close the windows and avoid going outdoors. Wrap your nose and mouth with a clean cloth or scarf before heading out.
Clean curtains and bed sheet
Wash the bed sheet and curtains every week in hot water. If it is difficult to wash your curtains every day then use a mite spray to keep them free from bacteria.
Pet care
If you have a pet at home, then they too can be a cause of allergy during pregnancy. Groom your pet and bathe them. If you are allergic to pet fur, trim it.
No carpet or rug mats
It is fine to decorate your house without carpet or rug mat during pregnancy. Dust mites (microscopic bacteria that causes allergy) are most commonly found in carpet and rug mats. So, keep your floor bare and clean.
Remember the causes
If you are allergic to dust, do not go out without covering your face. If you are allergic to pets, do not visit a friend who has a pet.
