Pregnant women goes through several changes in the body. Putting on weight, changes in physical appearance, complexion variations and hormonal changes are common during pregnancy. Body pain, back ache, leg and ankle pain are most common sufferings of pregnant women. This is mainly because of the hormonal changes which relaxes the leg muscles and prepares for delivery. Here are few tips to cure ankle pain during pregnancy.

Tips to cure ankle pain during pregnancy:

1. It is best to avoid standing for a long duration. Putting pressure on the leg and feet leads to more pain especially at night.

2. If the pain in ankle and foot is more during the night, soak your legs in warm water for 30 minutes. This provides relief from ankle pain in pregnant women.

3. Sleep on the left side to improve blood circulation in the leg. Avoid exerting much pressure on one leg.

4. Keep changing positions while sitting or lying down. Sitting in one position for more than 30 minutes can cause ankle or leg pain during pregnancy.

5. High heels should be avoided during pregnancy. Pregnant women should wear comfortable footwear which doesn't stretch the foot and leg muscles.

6. During pregnancy, if you wear heels, the leg muscles and arches stretch which can lead to pain or sprain. Wear flat sandals which are not slippery and fits well. Footwear should not be tight fitting.

7. If your ankle swells due to excessive pain, apply cold compress on the ankle for 30 minutes. Pregnant women might also get swelling on their ankles due to pain.

8. Avoid walking for long duration if you get ankle pain during pregnancy. Massage the feet to cure pain and get relief.

Try these tips to cure ankle or leg pain during pregnancy. Consult your doctor if the pain is severe and the ankle becomes purple in colour.
